Hurt or help you can bet it will come through science.

Science is good a lot of the time. In a hot country like mine, i never cease to thank the creators for airconditioners & fans. When abroad, i give praise for the Heating systems.
However, Science is also evolving to be the chief tool of the Devil. A typical example is the microchip implants, the Internet which is misused & used 2 reach billions of pple in a second and soooo many others. This may not seem possible now but Time will tell. However, it is an inevitable end since Science is already so ingrained in us and can never be cut out (like the chip!!!)

I know one way science helps us today that I am truly grateful for ... the advances in modern medicine. The progress made in the last 30-40 years is amazing! My father died in 1973 from coronary artery disease. He was only 57 years old. Just 18 years later, in 1991, when my husband was diagnosed with the same disease and could have died the medicines and surgical options available kept him alive. He's had 4 open-heart surgeries, countless cardiac catheterizations, has a pacemaker/defibrillator, successfully fought prostate cancer (5 years w/no recurrence), etc. So, yes, science certainly helps us nowadays.

I feel that science is very helpful, as there are many things discovered every day that can be attributed to science. Medical breakthroughs, computers, and other technological advances are important.

We have become very dependent on things from science. The medications we take for a headache, the calculation of the amount of calories our bodies need...there are so many examples!

Unfortunately, there are problems with giving you one "catch-all" yes or no answer. Problems arise with the increase in technological and scientific advances...like the increase in medical problems as a result (example: carpal tunnel syndrome) or with the ecological problem of getting rid of nuclear wastes and things created because of science.

So, while we are dependent on these things, they also create problems. This is one of those things where you are to weigh benefits vs. risks for yourself.

We didn't get as far as we are today without science. Every aspect of our lives, is somehow governed by the science behind us. Without science and the need for information and understanding, we would slip back into the dark ages and stagnate as a civilisation.

I agree with Donald CA. The challenges created by science can only be addressed with more science. This was first explained in the classic The Technological Society by Jacques Ellul. I read this when I was in college. Check him out in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Ellul

Science has helped us in many ways already.

People are living way longer than they should (in my humble opinion).

Communications and travel allows people to see and have dialogues with other people pretty much anywhere in the world that they ordinarily would never get a chance to meet.

But then you have the religious whack jobs out there who want to keep everybody down and in the dark by continuing to promote their idiotic notions of creationism, homophobia, anti women rights, etc.

How do you suppose "Science" has helped us? Technology? More people are hungry, more pollution, more wars, neighbors not talking to each other, everybody wants a car, iPod, children are molested, more people are dying of disease than ever, foods we eat are contaminated and engineered. How is science going to help us?

New discoveries in science helps to cure diseases, helps to improve communication and brings new gadgets to help in learning. It may help in getting a new alternative to gas for our cars. It also helps to get us healthy and fix our medicals issues with new devices. With any new technology also come harmful things like bigger and better weapons. But the good outweighs the bad.

it'll help us in someways, but in other ways it won't. like evolution is just made up science... well, most of it... but a BUNCH of other things have helped us & will continue to help us... just trust what ur instincts tell u to i guess...
