My daughter and I found a hummingbird on the groud. Apparently after some research we have determined it is about 15 weeks old. We are feeding it bird-nectar, but we also saw that it needs protein. Any ideas?

I've got a lot of links to wildlife carers from a lot of countries on my site, at
http://au.geocities.com/leaswebsite/links under "Wildlife Assistance" - just click on them all, click on your country and state, have a browse, 'phone them and ask their advice.

Very very best of luck.

It's not a baby after 15 weeks. Hummingbirds fledge around 20-30 days after hatching. If a hummer was on the ground, it may be injured. I'd take it to a wildlife rehabilitation place or maybe even a vet specializing in avian medicine.

BTW, they get protein from insects and spiders in the wild.

Ask a vet about what kind of protein to give it. If not call a wildlife refuge on caring for the bird. Hope all goes well!

hummingbirds cant be kept easily. If it cannot fly, you need to take it to a wildlife rehab.

Please turn it over to your local bird rehabber. They are the only ones who will ensure the bird's recovery in time for migration very soon.
