AKC is American Kennel Club.
UKC is United kennel Club
Canadian Kennel club (CKC)

these are the only american dog registries that are worth anything.
It only assures that the dog is purebred, and his ancesters are recorded for generations.

There is a continental kennel club that isn't worth anything(CKC)

If you are buying a dog, use the AKC to understand the breed, and what it was meant to do. They have all sorts of "bred in" and "inherited" skills, it's dumbfounding! You can't possibly expect a terrier or hound, bred specifically to hunt rats and chase game, to retrieve an object like a lab or golden. Ask yourself what you want in a dog and go from there.

AKC- American Kennel Club. It's just a registry tho- almost anyone can register their purebred dog on there.
If you choose to "buy" a dog (I prefer "adopting" but that's me) Make sure you stay away from pet stores!! They claim they have purebred dogs and that they get their animals from local breeders, but they are awful places who get their dogs from puppy mills - big breeding farms that produce dogs as livestock. NO dogs from puppy mills are EVER purebred.
Get a dog from a REPUTABLE breeder- (or a shelter!) and make sure the breeder is breeding for the love of the dogs-not for the money. good luck!

akc is the american kenal club and it just means that the dog you're getting (if it has papers) is of top quality and is truely a full breed. it's a great buy to get a dog with papers /c it's easier to determine what you're in for and it's a gurantee that you're getting what you want although they tend to be a little more pricy. even without the papers durning the purchase you can still register later

AKC is American Kennel Club. They do dog shows and have sets of standards for full-breeds.

"ACA"???Yet ANOTHER cheap-a** fake "registry" to cheat the public into buying crap??? Like apri, ckc, nkc, etc.???
The only reason NOT to have AKC registered(for purebred, recognised breed)is if the so-called breeder is un-able to meet AKC's strict rules.

Run away...

"AKC" also used/said is the animal has papers. AKC makes dogs more expensive because they are full blooded. No mixture in the bloodline.
