Depending on how long he goes, he will become a deserter. That will result in prison and the classification of deserter for the rest of his life. The deserter tag will not go away or be overlooked.

After this war is over the Americans will not allow another Jimmy Carter to "Forgive them their sins".

Over 1.5 million men have served in Iraq. Compared to that number, very few men get killed. The overwhelming odds are that he will serve and come home unscratched.

Let him grow up and be a man. ` Your selfishness will do him more harm than serving in Iraq will.

He will be a better man for himself, your daughter and the United States by serving.

If he has been sworn in, and he doesn't show up ...he's AWOL (absent without leave), and depending upon the circumstance, there could be jail time, a fine etc., etc., etc..

If he just signed a "letter" of intent to enlist that is a different matter.

However, you are running out of time. If he has changed his mind he better do something very soon.

It's called Awol, missing movement, derelection of duty, and anything else they can tac on. He's going, it's just his choice he can either go to boot camp, or to the brig. In the words of the Marines," U Signed the Mother f*ckin Contract.
On the other hand if he runs, Stallone is getting old, he may become the next Rambo.

He's AWOL until he shows up and if he does not show up he will be convicted under the UCMJ for Desertion which can carry a pretty hefty jail term in Leavenworth turning Big rocks into little rocks

Don't try and ruin his life by convincing him not to go because of your own political beliefs it will ruin his life.

Nothing will happen because he hasn't taken the second oath at the MEPS.

He should contact his recruiting office and tell them. At the very least he owes them an explanation instead of just not showing up.

Check out these links, it's important to take action before he reports to basic training. Depending on how he enlisted, it's pretty easily reversed before he has to show up.

awol until he has been gone for thirty days, after 30 days he will be considered a deserter. Punishment for a deserter during wartime can be death, but most likely won't be.
