Oh and this really isn't a question I don't guess but someone please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks a yellow box cake is just a little tacky, my bf says when we get married he wants the cake the be a yellow box cake!

Ok Im the Boyfriend just to let everyone know and no Im not cheap and taste is the thing Im concerned about, see I really like yellow box cakes with choclate frosting so if we can have a wedding cake thats going to total about 85 dollars for a big as* box cake to be made at a bakery why not. Alot of people go pay 2 to 500 for a cake and then alot of people wont like the cake because its more cosmetics than anything else. Everyone likes yellow cake for the most part, kool aid also, what else are you going to get for everyone including little kids to drink besides a bunch of punch. I dont see why everyone gets caught up in this "I have to spend big bucks for the wedding or it wont be special" thing. I'm more of a "I have to spend big bucks on a house, ring or honeymoon or it wont be special" type of person. The wedding is only one day and sure its supposed to be memories but tell me this, will you really be able to tell its kool aid or a box cake (Cooked by bakery still looks like a regular wedding cake) in the pictures??? No, will you be able to tell that your honeymoon wasnt anywhere special in the pictures, YES and same goes for the house. Really in a couple of years are your kids really going to give a dam if Mommy and Daddy had a low budget wedding when your staying in a big as* house??? I think not, and in a few years is it still going to be that big a deal to you that your willing to take a couple of steps back on the size of the house or the neighborhood just for a glitzy wedding. If so you got your head in the wrong place. Personally I would rather just the wedding really low budget and put a extra 10 grand on a downpayment for a house that ups the price of your house $50 to 100,000 in most places. Thats all I had to say and hopefully you people will stop trying to live like movie stars for a wedding and try to live like them with the more important things (HOUSE!!!!!)
AND WHO SAID THE WEDDING DAY WAS THE WOMANS DAY I DIDNT REALIZE SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about average, but we did ours on the seriously cheap - under $2K. But it was very small - about 30 guests. We rented a chapel for the ceremony, had the reception at home, just had trays of veggies, fruits, meats, and bread, and a store-bought wedding cake. The flowers for the party came from the same grocery store as the cake.

I don't think a yellow box cake is so much tacky as it is different. What kind of frosting is he wanting? Check out the local grocery stores and see what sort of cakes the bakery can make. Maybe a standard tiered cake, but with yellow cake mix, would satisfy you both?

Good luck!

I just renewed my wedding vows and our cake was Duncan Hines yellow cake with chocolate fudge frosting. We did get it professionally done from a supermarket. It looked like a wedding cake, but tasted way better. Everyone raved about our cake. Kool-aid could be fun but put it in a punch bowl or something otherwise that could be a little weird.

Depending on where you live you could probably have a nice wedding for around 2 grand or under. as long as you keep it fairly small. If you want 500 guests plann on paying a lot. Also i work for a wedding and convention center, and have tried many wedding cakes. m,ost of them are disgusting to eat. A yellow cake would actually taste good, much better than most. Some taste like a slab of kitchen sponge covered in sugar and lard. There is nothing wrong with yellow cake as long as you keep the decorations tasteful. Avoid strong colors such as scarlet, hot pink, orange, and banana yellow. While yellow makes a nice color for a wedding it is awful on a wedding cake for frosting. i have seen several now, and they were awful. yes to yellow on the inside, no to yellow on outside of cake.

Clark Howard was talking about that on his radio show tonight. The average cost in 2000 was around $15k. This year it is up to about $28k. This is due lots of couples are now having their weddings at some exotic location where they have their honeymoons. Would be a lot cheaper to get married in their home towns and then go off on the honeymoon (like my generation did), but we are all making so much more money now, you know. So the whole darn wedding party (and guests that can afford it) fly off to where ever....

The price of the wedding should depend on your budget. With a little creativity, you can have a beautiful wedding on any budget. As for the box cake, let him have it for the groom's cake. That way he gets what he wants and you can get the cake you love too!

ok you're husband to be may be a bit cheap or lack some taste. please don't have a yellow box cake with chocolate icing and kool aid at your wedding. it would be like a kid's birthday party. go to a bakery and pick out your beautiful cake. it's your day and you should have what you want.
