Spanish. Linguistic studies show that French deviates most from the other Romance languages. Plus, Italian pronunciation is a lot easier.

So Spanish, Italian, and then French.

As for German, it's a bit trickier to learn than Romance languages (for native English speakers that is). You have to deal with irregular plurals and declensions. Not fun.... but no big headaches with the subjunctive at least!

I speak French and Spanish and also know some German and Italian.

I feel that Spanish was the easiest to learn. And, once you know Spanish, you can easily learn Italian, as they are very similar.

Out of the 4, German would be the hardest. It has more difficult grammar than the romance languages.

That depends on what your background is. I am Mexican (duh) and speak Spanish and I have learned Italian. It is very, very similar! Some French words are like Spanish ones but Italian is more similar. I think the French accent is more difficult to master. One thing I hope you find helpful is this: my first language was English but reading in Spanish really helped me learn it better. The way it is spelled, is the way it is pronounced (of course there are a few exceptions). As for German, I have no clue! Good luck in expanding your horizons!

Spanish, French, Italian, then German. Of course the question of whether it is really "easier" is by opinion, because someone else may think that the order is different, but from my experience and friends' experiences put together, that's what I've expected to be the order.

Truthfully, German is actually very easy to learn because many words are just like they are in English. Plus, it's easy to read, because all the nouns in a sentence are capitalized.

French, Spanish, and Italian are all based on Latin and are very closely related. Even if you speak only a bit of one, odds are good that you could decipher something written in one of the others.
