Here is my idea of a dream day, I think it is pretty much a one size fits all men:
Wake up a little early (not too early) and make him his favorite breakfast. After you're both done eating have sex or fool around or whatever, then let him go back to sleep for awhile if he wants.
After he's up and showered and dressed let him do whatever he wants; relax, watch tv, play with the kids, video games, whatever.
Then make him a good lunch. And right after lunch do some kind of event, and it toally depends on who he is for this one. A sport/sporting event, go to the lake, a museum - whatever he is into. As long as you do it together.
After that, go to his favorite restaurant. From there you can do something relaxing like watch a movie, play a game. Or if hes more into drinking go out to a bar with some mutual friends. Pretty much anything as long as its casual and fun.
And then have sex again at night. You cant go wrong.
All we really want is sex and food, and the rest is just enjoyable time killing.

A nice watch, concert or sports tickets, a round of golf at a nice country club, maybe his favorite tv show on dvd

Sex and sports. There would be nothing cooler than to be fooling around with your g/f while watching your favorite sports team on tv, or other such ventures.

Tickets to his favorite team's game...sure fire success...if not a sports fan...then anything and everything for hunting...or whatever else he is into.

toys - fishing rods, golf clubs, poker chips, a guitar (only if he's really nice) etc
anything he can share with HIS friends
it says you are secure with him being himself and he can have friends
which is damn important
