They can be made out of koa wood, Chestnut, rowan ,bamboo and hickory and others

any type of hard wood would work. I make them out of oak or manzanita. you want a wood that is strong and not so apt to break when you put waight on it

I f you mean walking sticks, my husband has made them from cherry trees (pretty) oak, weeping willow, catalpa, red bud, cottonwood, birch,soapberry,and hedge apple or Bo D'arc trees, Try anything. I've seen them made of thread spools.

Diamond willow is a favorite, but alomost any will work.

Unless you mean the insect, and the answer to that is: whatever type it eats.

Any you would want to use ,I personally like the roots of bamboos they look pretty cool
