I used to be hooked on junk food, Tums and Pepto Bismol. I had suffered badly from severe acid reflux, chest pains and bloating to the point when I begged my doctor to be hospitalized. https://tr.im/HeartburnTreatment
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple.
Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.
Apple is a god send for keeping acid at bay, brilliant.

Greasy and spicy foods actually have very little to do with it. Your stomach can take those quite well. Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. https://tr.im/DefinitiveCureAcidReflux

The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.

there are many treatments:
Antacids (Tums and Rolaids)neutralize the acid in your stomach and provide prompt relief of symptoms.
H2 blockers (Tagamet HB 200 and Pepcid AC)
block stomach acid production and provide relief of acid reflux symptoms.
Proton pump inhibitors are a highly effective treatment for heartburn due to acid reflux disease and are used for long-term treatment. They control stomach acid and relieve heartburn. ZEGERID is the First and Only Immediate-Release proton pump inhibitor, providing rapid release of the active ingredients and continued 24-hour acid control.
Also, certain foods may result in heartburn symptoms more than others :citrus fruits (acid bigtime), chocolate, drinks with caffeine (coffee and soda) ,fatty and fried foods, garlic and onions, peppermint, milk (stimulates acid), spicy foods, and tomato-based foods (spaghetti sauce, chili and pizza).
Try to consider: If you take medication, take it only as directed. Elevate the head of your bed; reflux symptoms are most bothersome at night (keeps the bad stuff down) . Try not to overeat and avoid late-evening meals (don't eat within 3 hours of bedtime). Try to drop some weight if needed. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing. Try to stop smoking, it reduces esophogeal sphincter pressure. I hope this helps. good luck

Diet changes are the only thing that helped me. I take Nexium twice daily. I have to watch all acidic foods, caffeine, fried foods, carbonated beverages, medications like advil and aleve, dairy products. If you haven't tried the diet approach, take one thing away at a time to see if it helps. If diet doesn't do it, you really might want to reconsider Nexium. Esophaegeal erosion is not something to invite into your life.

Try figuring out what triggers your acid reflux. Could it be fried food? If so, limit the amount of whatever it is and drink lots of water.
