I think your dog "humps" things because it thinks it is in charge. In the pecking order, as far as he is concerned, your dog thinks he is above your baby. Don't let him continue this behaviour. Use your alpha dog voice to tell him "NO" when he tries it.

C'mun, the same way you trained your dog to stop any behavior you did not want. You have trained your poodle at some things, haven't you? You catch him doing it, you remove him away from your child by saying no with a firm voice, you can smack him on the butt, or put him in time out. Just saying no may not be enough, sorry. Be firm and consistent, it will not take more than four or five times. My dog used to hump my nephew, who was already a pretty big toddler, and he hated it. The nephew hated it, that is.

First know that humping is a dominance trait, your dog is trying to prove to your child that he is top dog. I would recommend clapping your hands and pushing the dog away when he does it. It will take a while but he will get the hint, when your child is old enough it will show the dog who is the real boss. Until then just discourage him from doing it.

Everytime it happens just pick up the dog and put it on your leg. After awhile it will associate your leg with humping and will automatically go for that.

Your 5 month old? I am not an advocate for punishment but a rolled up newspaper and a whack is needed here.

Keep the 5 month old off the floor!

Um... That's a good question... Try negative reinforcement - if he doesn't like water sprayed on him, take a clean spray bottle or squirt gun and spray him. Make sure you tell him, "No!" as dogs will usually understand what that means.

Other than that, I don't know what you would do...

Good luck with it all.

We have a female you can 'use' for a while!! Really, though, ours male does that at times-not to a child, but to whatever. We don't know what to do about it.
