This is because canines have no sweat glands. Instead of sweating to cool off they pant, thus creating a good air flow through their bodies. So when they do that they are warm or hot and need to cool down.

Dogs pant with their mouths open to release heat. We sweat, but they do not have sweat glands. This way their body cools down.

They are panting which they do to cool themselves. If their tongue is hanging out to the side then they are extremely hot and should be cooled down (slowly) immediately.

canines do this in hot weather , this is the only way they can cool themselves down its called panting. they do not as you and i have the ability to sweat. therefore they pant. look it up in the encyclopedia , dogs cannot sweat. thats why they say i was panting like a dog. its the only way for them to cool down.

It is very important for them.. it is their form of respiration. We humans perspire but dogs do not so they breathe thru their mouth to respire.
