Ignore the person who said it's illegal to have an amazon. It's illegal to own and trade wild caught ones captured after 1992. Domestically bred birds or wild caught birds caught before that date are legal to sell and trade.
Regarding toys: LOTS of toys you can make! The simplest is to string cheerios and rice cakes on a shoe string and weave the shoestring thought he cage bars. You can cut strips of paper and fold some up. Hide some nuts in the paper folds. You can also take toilet paper rolls and hide dried fruits in there. Go to a craft store and purchase some large beads and pieces of wood. Smear peanut butter on some of the beads and roll them in seeds. Instant snack!
A Good foraging idea is to get a small tupperwear container and stick toy parts and pieces of wood in there. Sprinkle in a nut or three. The birds will have fun playing with the toys and finding the hidden snakcs ^.^ !
Baby food mixed with corn bread mix makes a great treat. Bake it up, add seeds and pellets - My guys go nuts for pancake mix with egg added ^.^ .

How rude of that person to say give you that answer. Captive raised birds are legal. They make wonderful pets and can be very happy if treated right! I have a Senegal parrot. Didn't have the time or money for an amazon! They are amazing! I worked at a pet store for about 13 years, I remember one amazon that was there, I held up the phone to him and he said hello!!!!
I make bird toys! Usually just for smaller birds, but I can make larger ones!!!!! tnsndebt2001@yahoo.com. Newspaper rolled up, toilet paper rolls, clean kiln dried 2x4s with no chemicals make inexpensive toys and are easy to get! They need to be kept busy, very intelligent birds!!!!!
Fruit and nuts with no salt etc. are great. Treats from a pet store are best - you know that they are right for the bird and are convenient! Monkey chow is healthy and can be soaked in water or given in the biscuit form. Remember no avocado or chocolate!

I use to have an Amazon he was great. There are two simple toys him and my other parrots loved. First is old pens and mecanical pencils. Make shure that all led is out for mecanical pencils (grafite is not the best thing for parrots dijestion), and the ink tube is out of pens. The parrot will spend hours chewing it (it is really funy to watch) the more there is to a pen (like a clicky pen unsted of a cap pen) the more he will enjoy it. The other toy takes a little more work. Go to a craft store and get some popsicle sticks uses elmers washable glue and make toys with the sticks. They love things like ladders they will play on it for a while and slowly chew it to pieces garranted to love it. For snacks it depends on the bird. Some parrots love cheese (mine did) almost all of them love salt BUT IN MODERATION for example one potato chip will make him very happy, a bag will probably kill him. Also try fresh fruit since that is what they eat in the wild it is like candy to them.

Slice up some fresh tropical fruit next time you go over. Mango and papaya go over really well.
As for toys... can't help you there. The only person I know that has a parrot has to buy the special rosewood ones because Gabby chews through everything else...

I have a African Grey and a yellow napped amazon. I have spent hundreds dollars on fancy wood and acyclic toys over the years but it seems their favorite toy is the cardboard in the paper towel or toilet tissue roll. Keeps the quite for hours.

Safely and by moderation he loves green grapes, shredded wheat (no sugar) broccoli, carrots, banana, apple. Go to Lafeeber.com.

Do you know that it is illegal to trade amazon parrots? So, consequently, its also illegal to have one. The bird should be in Amazon. It's where it will feel itself amused and well feed.
