If you are further along then you think, your ultrasound will show it. It would still be wise, even at this stage to tell the doctor about your unusual period. If the baby measures close to what you think you are (for example you are 21 weeks and baby measures 20), then your due date is correct and you did just have a light period.

Hi. They can tell pretty accurrately the age of the fetus by it's size. But my Dr. told me that the longer you wait to have an ultrasound, the less accurate the due date is. I miscarried a baby and got pregnant right away (when we weren't trying). I hadn't had a period in a while so we weren't sure when I conceived. So they did an ultrasound to find the due date. My son ended up coming 3 1/2 weeks early. (He was perfectly fine!) With my second, I hadn't been paying much attention and wasn't sure when my last period started. So they did an ultrasound. They said I was 3 months along! This baby was born only 8 days early. Each time you have an ultrasound, ask th e technician what the measurements say the due date is. They usually don't tell you, unless you ask. And the dr. almost never changes the due date. Congratulations.

I would tell the doctor everything that you experienced, including your suspicions because it IS possible to have a period when you are pregnant, and they know that, BUT... measurements are pretty accurate. If they say the baby looks to be about the size of a 20 week old fetus, size and weight, etc, then they are probably right. They would most definitely recognize a baby that is a month off from the standard measurements. Doctors are always re-arranging people's due dates because of it, even if only by a week or so.
Good luck!

Chances are ~ that was a period ~ they can range from 3-5 days to 7-14 days depending on your body. If the baby is measuring at 20 weeks that was probably a period. Just trust the docs. And if you're still not sure a second opinion may be your next best bet. Congratulations and good luck :)

Some people have some spotting between 3-5 weeks or thereabouts during their pregnancy. So it may not have been a period after all, but you should always be 100% honest with your doctor if you expect him to provide you with top quality care. You may want to mention it to him just to be on the safe side. Ultrasound is not 100%. It told me at 34 weeks that my baby was already over 8 pounds and 4 weeks later when I had her, she was only 7#. Let him be the judge, for the safety of your baby. Good luck on this great new venture!

Due dates are only an estimation. No one can pin point the exact day of conception. When you have your u/s, they will tell you if the baby is measuring ahead of schedule. If you are further along than the doctor once believed, they will move your due date up. But, as I said, due dates are not an exact science. Babies come when they get good and ready anways.

From what I've heard, those measurments are often quite off, although the difference of four weeks should show. I would definitely mention it to the doctor and be prepared a month before my scheduled date, just in case, although I don't think that there is much else you could do.

If the baby measures 20 weeks then you're most likely 20 weeks, give or take. If you were off by 4 weeks, I think they would have been able to tell with your 1st ultrasound.
Congratulations!

That I did observe a distinction, yet in user-friendly terms for as long as i became taking it. Breastfeeding could be problematical. interior the commencing up i became pumping and then putting it interior the bottle so i might desire to tell how lots he became getting.
