Name one good reason to have kids that isn't self motivated (selfish)?

We no longer need to populate the Earth. This is a serious question.

Ok, but the majority of these answers are self motivated. I mean really think about the question. Having a kid to carry on your family name is about you. Having a kid to pass your morals onto is about you. Having something to love is about you.

There isn't a good reason. We have children to love them, teach them and bring them up to be like us. Everything we do is self motivated. There is no such thing as an altruistic act. If anyone cares to debate that, contact me. I'll be happy to have a discussion about it.

Well, it's hard to say that it's selfish considering you give up so much once you have a child. I do think there are people who do it for selfish reasons.

I do agree that the earth is populated enough. The problem is that the less educated a person, a country or what have you, the more kids they have.

For example, I live in LA and every single day, I see mexicans with at least 5 kids. Most educated couples will have one or two.

Because you want something that u can love. Cause you are set for one and you and the person that u are with are ready to raise one and cause the kids are our future. I have a lot of faith in the kids that are born now as long as their parents take the time to raise them right and teach them to be upstanding citizens like i intend to with my kids. I want kids when i am good and ready so that i can give them the life that i never had but for now i just try to teach my friends kids and stuff everything that i know i got so much knowledge to pass on and i love having little ears to learn from it and to also add the imput that they have learned in their short time here on earth. I also think that kids can bring a lot of joy to people the overpopulating is coming from these people that go out and sleep around and dont care if they bring a baby into this world and how they care for it. I feel it is these neglected children that turn into the not so good adults that are ruining the world.

Welll, I am going to start off by making an assumption that you are an intelligent person. I believe that you are as only an intelligent person would have the forethought to ask this question. What will happen if all the intelligent people on earth stop having kids? What will happen to the future of our planet? Everyone else will go on having kids - but we need to have the smart ones too! That's my reason - sorry if it offends anyone.

Although we are "theoretically" the highest species on Earth, we are still mammals of the Phylum Chordata, and some females have the maternal instinct (or need) to reproduce and love and teach another of her kind. That is not selfish, but giving. My husband and I had one child, so we cut the population in half in our household.

If two people choose not to have children, then they most certainly should not. They would make terrible parents! I would pity the poor child born into that household!

To keep the earth populated. People die these days and if there are no people being made then they will go extinct! Also, we should have children because they could become doctors and save lives or educators and teach the children. Children are the future!

Of course a lot of the reasons people have kids are self-perpetuated, but think of the possibility that your child could become the lawyer who puts sick child molesters/rapists/etc in prison, or the doctor who finds the cure for cancer/AIDS/etc.... of course on the flip side they could become the biggest drug dealer or arms dealer out there, but that would not be likely if he or she was raised well.

Be with a kid ..for sometime ..and I am sure you will relaize why we should have kids.

About your concern on population, a fact tells that ..with current resources, even if population of planet increase by 20 times, every one can easily survive, but resources needs to be managed properly.

I agree with you. Our deputy Prime Minister (of Australia) said just a few months ago that women of 2006 should have 3 children, one for each of the parents, and one for the country. How stupid is that when we don't even have enough childcare places available.

we no longer need to populate the Earth? remember that people die everyday as well.....having kids is not something that is selfish....maybe if you grow up and you realize how much a couple wants to have children, you won't think like this anymore....
