My 2.5 year old female short-haired St. Bernard has been shedding a lot of hair. I recently bought one of those fancy "rake" combs that takes the undercoat off. A massive amount of hair came out, and what looked like to be dandruff. She's been eating normally, behaving normally, eating and drinking normally. Her hair though is coarse and not as shiny.

New aspects of her life....we've all been sleeping in the basement because it is a lot cooler down her, a new cat came into the picture in which they sleep together. She's eating IAMS large breen low active food. She also switched from Frontline to k-9 Advantix this flea season, and is using the same Heartguard heartworm medication.

Any suggestions, help, or what it could be. Is this normal? I appreciate everyone's thoughts and feelings. I have answered many questions, and have gotten many excellent answers. I do appreciate all of you for taking the time to answer my questions.

If everything else seems normal, then it may just be shedding. It is summer after all, and a large dog like a St. Bernard has a lot of fur that may overheat her.

If you recently switched her food, too, along with the flea medication, this may cause an allergic reaction, causing her to lose fur. You mentioned that her fur is now coarse and not shiny...this may be attributed to poor diet and no excercise.

I wouldn't be alarmed enough to take her to the vet, but you could always call in with questions, just to be sure.

It is hard to say really what is causing this problem. Worms will make a dull coat. I have a st. bernard and he shed alot of his hair i thought he was going bald, but it was really all the dead hair. I know st. bernards need alot of high protein. I do not feed my saint just dogfood he gets the raw diet and plenty of everything. Raw chicken is good to give to him and any other raw or cooked doggy meals. I have read what is in dogfood and i do not like it. so i feed my saint what i know is in it and that is the food i prepare for him. it wouldn't hurt to consult your vet about the fur and the flaky skin with the dull coat could have allergies going on. The raw diet and etc. does not cause heart worms. I have a 19 year old sheltie (in people years) that never eats or has ever ate dogfood, and she is as healthy as she can be and keeps living happy. The only vet bills are shots and checked for worms.

As far as the shedding goes all dogs especially ones with lots of fur shed a lot. If you don't brush it out at least every two weeks and she or he's an outside dog it gets matted up. If you're feeding her strictly dry dog food then according to my local veternarian when a dog gets dandruff from dry skin it's the dog food. The remedy is simple. Soak her dog food with olive oil. It's a little high, but it works. Just do it for a few times then let up or your dog may gain to much wait. They seem to like the olive oil in their food. I have a dachsund AKC, a scottie, and Chee wa wa. lol I know it's spelled wrong. The worming medicine- great Idea. No table scraps ever. It causes the heart worms Doc says.

there is not any concern with doing it two times in an hour. Masturbation is healthful on your body and it may practice you what it takes to make you orgasm so later with a needed different you'll comprehend what they want to do to you to make you squirt. I nonetheless will do it a minimum of once an afternoon and infrequently 2 or 3 circumstances in an afternoon relying on how pleasing i'm. I truly have finished it two times in an hour on many events. the most I ever did in an afternoon became 9 circumstances. I merely spent the day bare and became analyzing a porn novel and kept stroking it persistently. I almost made t to 10 yet I lost the erection. i wanted to masturbate a lot that I had a dry orgasm. I almost made it lol

It could be her normal shedding due to the change in season. Maybe have her fully groomed and watch to see if it continues.

IAMS is not a good food, so it doesn't surprise me that she has alot of dandruff and a dull coat. Maybe look into switching her to a good food like Innova EVO or Wellness or Eagle Pack.

Good luck!

Obviously the first advice is to take her to the vet. However, have you considered heat rash? and that she's moulting severely because you guys (gathering you're in the States) are in the height of summer?
Genetically she's supposed to live in snow covered, mountinous regions. The same thing happens here in Australia with people who have Huskies etc...
Perhaps get her trimmed for summer and give her a bath with the hose when it's really hot.

you should probebly take her to the vet. It might be nothing, it might be something. Usually sheding hair is good for dogs, but loosing to much might be a sign of a sickness or cancer, not to be a downer or anything, I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

all dogs shed expecially in the hotter months as far as I know it's nothing to worry about the white stuff like dandruff could be just that or it could be a form of eczema I found this site useful http://www.seefido.com/html/why_dogs_shed_.htm
Also look under dog diseases.

it could be stress causing her to loose her hair with all the changes, or possible a skin allergy....but probably best to take her to the vet for a general check up to make sure all is well
