Ok, first let me say that Sonny has been to the vet and been termed healthy in that he doesn't have worms, and is feline lukemia negative, he has had all his shots too. What worries me is that he's not putting on weight, he's all skin and bones. He's a 7mo old siamese mix, white with sunny yellow ears, nose and tail and very blue eyes. We gave him chicken one day, and he ate it, but didn't seem to digest it, looked like he just passed it right through. We have recently changed his diet, we went from special kitty to whiskas - would that be the problem? Since noticeing his condition, we acted on advice from our local pet store and bought him diamond cat food and have had him on canned food like you give kittens. He has a good appetite, but isn't putting on pounds. Anyone else have a cat like this? Ever had one? Any serious help or advice is welcome at this point.

It is very common for cats and dogs to lose weight during the warmer months. About the chicken, I sure hope that you did not give the cat chicken with bones in it. That is a definite no-no as they can choke on the bones or they can spinter inside. I give my cats apple cider vinegar in their water and garlic in their food. Use fresh garlic, not powdered garlic. This aids in keeping worms and fleas away. You might also try lamb and rice food. I had a cat that developed an allergy to fish that went diagnosed until it was severe and she lost over half of her hair. We put her on the lamb and rice and she did great. I hope this helps you and your sweet Sonny gets better. However, unless he is acting ill, he is probably just shedding weight due to the warmer weather. One thing that is also common in male cats is a blockage in the urinary tract if they do not drink enough water. The apple cider vinegar should also help with this. Every time I put the vinegar in the water for my cats they lapped it up like there was no tomorrow. FYI - apple cidre vinegar is a natural disinfectant and antibiotic and also will neutralize the pH levels within the body. It will NOT harm you or your cat. It is beneficial to animals and humans alike (I would not give it to birds though. Just my personal opinion and not based on a vet telling me not to give to my bird. I just didn't think it was wise because of the lack of birds being able to burp.)Good luck.

some cats just will not be BIG cats, But since your cat is so young still.. make sure all the food its getting is KITTEN food. Dont feed it table scraps until its about 18months or older. Your cat may have been the "runt" so its just a small cat, Special kitty is not a very good food nor is whiskas, but they are cheap. It may cost you a few dollars more but get a little bit better quality of food- or at least one specially formulated just for kittens. I used to feed my cats whiskas and special kitty, just cuz they eat it and like it doesnt mean they are getting what they need.

Siamese cats are very skinny and very picky.
If your vet has cleared him, don't worry. Stay off the fish, It gives cats the real problems.
By some little friskees variety packs and some
good expensive dry food like IAMS. When he's
hungry, he will eat. My cats won't eat Whiskas
either! We boil chicken thighs for 45 minutes
for the dogs and cats, as well as having dry
and wet cat food available. Remember to
change the water frequently. Good luck!

A lot of good answers here!
I would say that changing the diet frequently can make a cat's tummy very upset. My cat has that problem--he seems to have irritable bowel syndrome (but that's a whole other subject)--just pick a good quality food and stick with it.
He sounds like a gorgeous cat! :)

I have two siamese cats, and from my experience, they're just skinny cats. Ming and Ling are very healthy, but very skinny. We feed them dry food with about a third of a small can of wet food on top and that's what they get for the whole day and they're doing very well... Good luck!

have you tried kitten chow the dry stuff? Or try Science diet cat food maybe they make a special blend for kittens. because at 7mths old he should have somekind of kitten food it give them the right nutrients until he is 12mths ol it is like having a baby in the house any dog or cat under 12mths. should be fed kitten or puppy food. try the kitten chow first, for a month or two keep track of his weight then if this doesn't work get a new vet. my daughters cat was just like yours and we tried the regular cat food but she was not gaining weight then I myself went to the store and thought to myself lets try the kitten chow we weted it down alittle and she ate it and now she is fat and happy until the dog comes near her, lol. Keep me posted.

I haven't had this problem with my cats, but I had to research this a little b/c it sounds so sad.
I found this article on a petsmart website, of all places. (Scroll down to the part about ravenous hunger).

At first it sounded like tapeworm a human will get ( you know, he eats and eats but never seems to gain weight) But I really hope you can find some answers for this problem. Poor kitty!

Good that you are taking care of your kitty. But I suggest that you ask your vet for advice; I think he/she will recommend vitamins and different food.

special kitty is the worse cat food you can buy. go to pet-smart or your vet and buy the food from them. they will recommend the best food for your cat. it does cost more, but it is cheaper in the long run. (vet bills etc...) p.s. His name is Sunshine (Sunny)

I think Siamese cats are skinny by nature.
