Before his poor showing at Waterloo and his his disastrous retreat from Moscow, Napoleon won his fights early in his career by upgrading his artillery, leading from the front and the fact that most of his opponents;ie: the Austrians, Prussians and Russians still fought using mid 18th century tactics that were preferable inthe Seven Years War.That is until he went up against Lord Wellington and the British ARmy in Eygpt, Spain and later Belgium.

He was a brilliant military tactician. He was an extremely successful general, and used his knowledge to win many battles.

he understood how to motivate troops and he was a brilliant thinker in the field of battle. sometimes (actually, most of the time) brains outdo brawn.
