8x and 4x refer to how fast your DVD burner can write information to the DVD. All DVD players play the DVD at the same speed, 1x. So how fast the DVD was burned has nothing to do with how well it can be played.
However, each manufacturer uses a slightly different process for making their blank DVDs. So some BRANDS of disk may play better in your player that others. But the recording speed makes no difference.

Christian Dude, (like the name) it's not about whether you want a slower (4X) or faster (8X) speed recorder. If it's going to be portable, the word you're looking for is "anti-shock", meaning movement won't cause it to dislodge from the track it's either recording or playing back. You could have a 32X recorder, but if its software and/or hardware does not have antishock ability, that is, make allowance for sudden movement, it will skip like a little kid on a hopscotch game anytime you move it too fast or it gets bumped.
