If you have an ultrasound early in the pregnancy (first trimester) it is pretty accurate at predicting the due date. I have 3 children, pregnant with my 4th. My first one was born 2 days before the ultrasound due date, the second one a day after the ultrasound due date. These dates were also the same as if you went by my cycle. However, on my third one my cycle date was 9/15, the ultrasound date was 9/9 and she was born 9/6. Of course, the baby will be born when he/she is wants.

sure the dates can be off a little. the sonograms measure the size of the fetus and compare them with the average size at that gestational age. if you have a particularly large or small baby for that particular sonogram, you'll have an incorrect due date.

Also relying on your last menstrual period is not reliable either. Especially if you do not have a 32 day cycle. Those charts are all based on the fact that you'd ovulate on day 14 (most women don't) and have their period two weeks later.

So yes, those dates can be off. It is unlikely, very unlikely that it would be off by more than one week.

A due date is just an educated guess and can go 2 weeks either way. I had my son a day late by induction my daughter on the other hand was in a hurry and i had her 3 and half weeks early. She weighed 7lbs 1 oz so she did pretty well for being so early. But the ultrasound would tell you if you were farther along.

My son was born 3 1/2 weeks early, but had no signs of being premature. So I think his due date was off since it's unusual to go early with the first baby.

The dr. is going by an average menstrual period when they make their due date guesstimate. You may not be average. Even when you ask they say a full term baby is considered between 38 and 42 weeks.

Yes, the date can be off a week or so and sometimes a month or more. Usually when the babies are born months early, it's because something is wrong (high blood pressure, etc). Doctors don't let you get more than 2 weeks past your due date usually. I was almost 2 weeks early.

when the doctors went by my last period - they gave me one due date, I got another due date at my ultrsound which was two weeks later, I delivered right in the middle of the two dates - I guess neither one was right :)

Due date is just an estimated guess so it can be off from a day to a month - I have two friends that went 3 weeks past their due date and ended up being induced

Good luck!

they usually go by your last period but since not all women are regular it might be off.
When you have an ultrasound later on, at about 5 months they can measure the baby and tell you a better date.

both of the dates my doctor give me for both of my kids were off. so my doctor didnt get to deliver my kids like she wanted cause she was wrong. alot of doctors will tell u one date and it maybe another date casue now adays if theres anything wrong with the baby thay can try to suck more money out of u for u and ur baby staying longer in the hospital and if thay set a date and u dont have ur baby by than most of the doctors will try to get u to have the baby early. them obgyn doctors like to try to be sneeky unless u know how to read the sonogram or ultra sounds pictures or screen
