Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium leprae which causes disfiguration of the body or skin. The bacterium is an aerobic, acid fast, rod-shaped (bacillus) mycobacterium. The modern term for the disease is named after the discoverer of the bacterium, Gerhard Armauer Hansen.

if the the disease is upto genetic mutation and if it causes autosomic changes then it may be heritable too.since it has been found that the gene which is responsible to T.B is some extent same as the gene for leprosy so they is a chance leprosy to be heritable

No, it is a pathogen that causes necrosis(cell death) which leads to the flesh rotting. Pleasant I know but that's the truth. Peace

It's contagious.
You get it from someone else that has it.

That's why they tried to quarientiene everyone that had it back in Ireland a couple hundred years ago. They didn't want it to spread.

As above, with one exception. It is not CURABLE, but it is considered CONTROLLABLE with responsible medical care and medications, AND a compliant patient.
