I think that different rules apply to different children. Some parents are comfortable with it, and some are definately not. Just go with your instinct. I'm sure that you are a great parent, and whether you give your child gum or not, you know what is best for them. If he knows how to chew it and enjoys it, I see no problems with a piece of sugarless gum. I would just make sure that you are practicing good dental hygeine with him. If it worries you a lot, or you aren't comfortable with it, or he swallows it a lot, then simply don't offer it to him. If you still chew it, don't do it in front of him so he doesn't want it. This just makes things simpler. But over all, just remember to trust yourself. You are his parent and you know what is best for him no matter what ANYBODY else says!

It may be sugar-free, but it has artificial sugar nevertheless. Go to www.dietitian.com/sugar.html for possible helpful explanations from a diet expert.

Make sure your child does not choke on it. Not bad for him as long as it is sugar free or if he has PKU. If you dont know what PKU is and your doctor never said PKU about your child then dont worry about it.

I would think as a once in a while treat it is okay - but be careful because it is a choking hazard (even for older children)
Good luck!

I would steer clear of it for a few years. Why would you even give that to him at such a young age to begin with? What if he had choked and died?

I'd be afraid of choking! And the sweetener isn't good for him either.
