possibly your cat is allergic to the collar

First off, flea collars are not really very effective, especially during summer months. Next.....if your cat had/has fleas, he likely has tiny flea bites on his skin under his fur. They are little bumps, like any other insect bite, and they cause him to itch. While he scratches, he will also cause the flea collar to move around his neck. The scratching combined with the rubbing of the flea ollar medicine directly into the tiny open wounds he is creating by scratching will almost always result in sores and scabs. Consult your veterinarian about a better once-monthly flea treatment for your cat. This will usually only cost you betwen $12-$20 each month, and can have many benefits for your cat. Not only will it get rid of fleas, but once the fleas are gone, your cat will be at less risk for developing some types of intestinal worms, which are parasites carried by fleas.

Your best bet to prevent fleas is not a flea collar because all it does is protect against the neck and head. Are you using a collar that is for cats and not for small dogs? How old is your cat? Under 2months is not recommend. Try using a flea spray or get the drops for prevention.

Your cat could be allergic to the chemicals on the flea collar or you might have put the collar on too tight!!! But it sounds to me like the cat is having an allergic reaction to the chemicals and medicine on the flea collar. You need to take it to the vet and see what he/she has to say. Flea collars are only supposed to be used for cats six months and older!!! hope i helped!!!

He is most likely allergic to it. Spend a few more dollars and get him some frontline. Flea collars do not work anyway, they only keep fleas off of the neck where the collar is touching.

Probably means your cat still has fleas. Flea collars are a waste, get a product from your vet that works. some animals are allegic to flea bites, if may take only one and the animal breaks out. An injection from your vet will help this as well.

it could be either
A.) Its way to tight
or
B.) He is allergic to the flea medicine on the collar

Maybe try an alternative. There could be a homemade recipie to protect against fleas. Look around online. It will be much better then having a miserable cat!
Good luck!!

I think he has flea dermatitis. He is allergic to the flea bites and not his collar. You can try to use a liquid drop flea medication like Advantage. It helped my cat he had it too.

Because flea collars have dangerous chemicals in them that are harmful to cats! Don't use them! Go to your vet and get either Advantage or Frontline.

I would not have him/her wear one- many animals are allergic to flea and tick meds and flea collars are heavily dosed. Our dog has the same problem. Ask your vet about Frontline (you can only get it from a vet but you can find info and coupons at http://frontline.us.merial.com/home/index.asp ). It is not a collar but an oil, and our dog who does have problems with some things did not react to it. Poor kitty...

The cat does not like wearing the flea collar. If you observe kitty you may notice s/he is scratching with hind claws causing the wounds you describe.

Please do not have kitty's hind claws removed if front paws have been declawed. It is kitty's last defense should s/he get out and meet other cats or more dangerous creatures.
