It must have been around 1945 or 1946 that someone coined the name "World War 2" because prior to then, what we now know as "World War 1" was called "The Great War".
If you look in Wikipedia you'll read this:
"World War I has also been called “The Great War” (a title previously used to refer to the Napoleonic Wars) or sometimes “the war to end all wars” until World War II. The term “First World War”, implying an event distinct from a “Second World War” has fallen into disfavor by some scholars who regard World War I as merely the first phase of a three-decade-long war spanning the period 1914–1945.4 “War of the Nations” and “War in Europe” were commonly employed as descriptions in the 1920s. "
As for Prussia, it didn't really exist as a separate country after Hitler took power in Germany in 1934, so your argument doesn't really apply.

The countries that didn't survive WWII were Lithuania, Latvia and others behind the Iron Curtain. Only since the end of the Cold War did things change.
The phrase "World War 2" was first noted in use in Manchester Guardian on 18 February 1919. It seems that World Wars I & II were named together for the first time by Time magazine on 11 September 1938.
On 27 April 1942 a Gallup Poll indicated that people preferred the term World War II for the ongoing global war. During the war, many Americans also called it as "The War in Europe," or simply, "The War."
Noting that the term "World War II" had been used in at least seven public laws to designate this period of hostilities, and that analysis of publications and radio programs indicates that this term had been accepted by common usage, President Truman officially named the war in September 1945.
Regarding the loss of Prussia, the answer above gave a good response.

World War II started primarily because the American people were unwilling to join the League of Nations at the end of World War I, thereby removing what would have been that organization's major military power. This led to, or allowed at least, Hitler's rise to power in Germany. There were several points at which he was thoroughly overextended and any kind of a show of force by the League or even just a few of its member nations would have put an end to his plans, but the other European powers continually caved in to him, appeasing him at almost every turn and allowing the territory, manpower and raw materials under his rule to continually increase. Then when the Friendship Pact between Germany and Russia was signed, his back was covered and he could attack, first Poland and then the countries to the west. American isolationism was the main cause.

Prussia ceased to exist about 70 years before World War two when Bismark led the unification of Germany. Since Germany became a country it has simply been a region.

Wars do have a tendency to wipe out country's. The world has no responsibility to "bring them back." If the former Prussians want to make their own country they can certainly work toward that.
Russia, of course, suffered the most as a country. The Jews suffered more as a people.

I think you are confusing WWI with WWII as far as Prussia goes. Prussia as a state, was abolished by the Nazis in 1934.
