None.

Dogs absolutely need dedication and attention. If you want an animal and want to keep your lifestyle, head to the shelter and get a cat. Contrary to what everyone says, they aren't hard to train so it is possible to keep your furniture from claws. Cats are the ones that are much better for having someone frequently gone - they're loners overall.

Dogs on the other hand can manifest so many problems when they aren't with their "pack". If you get a dog and crate it all the time, that's not cool. If you don't crate it and leave it out - chances are it will poop/pee/chew/tear up where you don't want it to with things you don't want it to. If not that, dogs can develop psychological problems as well. You know those animal shows that people laugh at when the dog chases his tail every time a car goes past? Not funny... that's an issue. And they range from mild to severe.

Dogs are definately pack animals and need the companionship.
If you'll be getting a small breed that you can take to parties with you, a social little dog (Italian Greyhound) would be my suggestion.

Good luck and I hope you really think it over for not only your sanity, but the health of the dog. :)

You should not get a dog or any pet that needs affection. Dogs are pack animals and it's not good for them to be alone all the time. Why do you even want a dog if you're never home and rather be out partying. Use your brain, if it's not already dead from the partying, and don't get a dog. It's not fair to the animal.

Honestly, it's probably a bad idea to get a dog if you're not home very much. Dogs need a lot of attention especially when you first bring them home. My friend's sister's boyfriend just got a German Shepard and the poor thing just sits outside all day. Noone bothers taking it out on walks or playing with it. I love animals, and to me it's very important if you get a pet or have a pet to provide it with the attention that it needs. If the pet is left home alone a lot then it won't be as friendly or as social as you would like it to be. I understand that it's great to be able to come home to someone that loves you unconditionally. It's great. I have a cat, and every time I come home she waits at the door to greet me, props herself up on my leg so I pick her up, and then she starts purring and licking my cheek. It's wonderful, but animals need a lot of attention especially in the beginning. You also have to remember: Can you provide for it when it gets sick? Vets are really expensive. My cat got really sick almost a year ago, and I'm still paying for the surgeries. We almost had to put her to sleep. She's fine now. It's like nothing ever happened, but she did get really expensive. I don't regret it, and I would do it all over again if I had to. I wish I could tell you what kind of dog would be great for you even if it is home alone a lot, but from my experiences with dogs, they love attention and need it. They can be a whole lot needier than cats. If they at all are neglected they possibly can turn on you and not trust you, but not all dogs are like that. Some dogs will miss you so much when you're gone that they're really loving when you're finally home. But please don't forget to think about the dog's feelings. Even as humans we hate being neglected and left alone waiting for someone we care about dearly to come home. Animals are different...they can't necessarily reason like humans can. If you still want a dog then it's probably best to go to pet stores and meet a few of the dogs. Depending on where you live there are some places that have little shops with just puppies. Go into them and meet the different dogs. Find the one that just feels right to you, ya know? You'll know which one is yours when you see it and hold it. He/She will just be perfect to you. Good luck!

NOne at this time. Aquiring a dog is a lifelong responsibiity for the life of that animal. They need to be fed, bathed, petted, given fresh water & played with. Dogs are very loyal & will stay with an owner that beats them simply for the attention.
So at this time of your life, be responsible & don't get a dog. When you have the time to put in to training ou beloved friend, you will discover a no better companion. Mine have given me lots of love-they are always happy to see me if I have been gone 5 hours, 5 minutes or 5 seconds. We play, walk together & I talk to them. They are loves of my life. I have Dobermans. I am very excited because I am about to rescue a female Dobie & I have never had a little girl!

You should not get any animal if you are not able to dedicate time for walks and love and attention. They are just like humans and do not like to be left home alone all the time, and they need the interaction with you daily. You should probably wait until you have settled down to bring a dog into the picture, they will love you for it, and all they ask for is food and attention.

You shouldn't get a dog if your not home a lot. Get a cat if you must get a pet, they are more independant & don't mind being left alone as much as a dog. Your asking for trouble if you get a dog & don't have the time to properly train it & time to spend with it.

A stuffed one! If you don't have much time for a dog for whatever reasons, dont get one, they require alot of attention and most breeds require alot of supervision and care! Consider a cat, they are much more independant an can deal with it better if your only home a few hours a day!

You have a problem there because dogs need to be near their owners a lot or they will tear the house apart.

But i do recommend getting a beagle
