That's a good question! I'm surprised it came from a woman, though, and not a man. lol
I think we all have "hidden agendas" early on in a dating relationship. I do. He does. You do. We all do, when it comes right down to it.
The bigger question, to me, is "What is his hidden agenda?"
That's what you need to look for and look at. Is he just after sex? Is he looking for a mate? Is he gay and looking for camouflage? The possibilities are endless.
Same goes for women, of course. Are you just looking for sex? Do you automatically assume he is looking for sex? Are you hungry for marriage? Is he wealthy/stable/handsome enough? And so on.
Whatever his or your "hidden agenda" may be, it will take awhile for it to become obvious or (more likely) for it to change or evolve.
That's one of the magic things about dating and having a relationship ... they tend to become something other than what they started out as.
The key thing is to not have any great and specific expectations on a first date. Let things take a natural course and allow yourself to get to know him and him to know you. That's what dating is for ... just let it happen and don't worry too much about it.

I don't believe that the agenda is actually hidden. It's just not talked about when you first meet someone - man or women. Generally, the first things in either a man or woman's mind is sex, compatability and intimacy. It's just that no one comes out and talks about that during the initial stages of meeting someone - it's just not polite. Once you move beyond the intial stages to actually dating someone then the topic, for lack of better wording, comes up. It's never actually hidden - everyone knows that the topic is out there - it's just a matter of when to bring it up.

Because society is letting men get away with more - it has become more acceptable to play around and be a man-whore bachelor until 38, instead of just being a man-whore bachelor until 38. However, the positive side of this is that at least if they AREN'T ready for marriage, maybe less of them will get married and then cheat, since it is acceptable for them to remain single into middle age.
Too many women have hidden agendas too. MONEY. Not me though, I've got my own.

What do you mean by "nowadays"? Men have always had an agenda. ALWAYS. In times when they didn't seem to...It was just more hidden.

I don't know. I make it known to any guy I date that I don't go for casual sex but it seems like the guys I meet say they want to take it slow on a relationship or be friends, but they start putting the moves on on date one. They are seem to be looking to get laid.

It isn't hidden. And certainly not as hidden as women's 'hidden agenda'.
