I am having a video game tournament party for my son's 8th bithday ( PS2 & XBOX 360). I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out what sort of prizes should be given out to the winners... there are both boys and girls coming (7 kids in total including the birthday boy)! I would appreciate any ideas that you have

I think to keep your budget in check go to your local Wal-mart, Dollar tree or Big lots. They usually all have a decent section with things to make "birthday bags"
If you are going to offer up a gift for a Grand Prize winner i did like the idea of the gift card to a store or somewhere that the child can find something they will enjoy and the parent can accesses easily. Candy can go alittle over board especially if your already doing cake. You can also package up generic gift bags for all the children with equal toys (rings, squirt guns etc) and only offer up like a grand prize, 2nd place, 3rd place. at 8 don't be surprised if some get board anyways and go off and do other things!

Theses all great ideas people have however, try to get things that are unisex. You are haveing a video game party, and it is assumed that boys can play better then girls. Although this is not true giving diffrent gifts can convey that message. The girls wont feel equal to the boys. Also, not all girls like girl things and not all boys like boy things. Pool toys, gamebords, outdoor toys and etc. are good girfts. Make a grand prize a video game. What game? Survey what games the kids love, or get kids games, a Diseny game is always a good choice.

good multiplayer games and lots of controllers and tv's depending on the rating u allow him to play there are lots of games. just get some snacks and comfy chairs, have everyone who is coming bring all of there games and maybe pick up a few more at blockbuster tournaments are a good idea, plus a movie to break it up. p.s. make sure that the games that are played are appropriate 4 everyone, some parents may not want their kids to play M or even T games

Good Birthday prizes maybe you sould give girls different stuff than the boys because girls and boys are different and they like different things! If you are worried that they might like what the other genders gets better than what they get then dont take this adveice!

Give them 5 dollar gift cards to like Toys R Us, Blockbuster, or something like that. This way you don't have to worry about gender appropriate and things like that and it stays relatively cheap.
