My dogs got this new kind a treat called "Pup Corn." It's cheese flavored. It is super healthy and stuff. Curiousity got the best of me so I tried one becuase my dogs were eating them by the handful. I liked them. They tasted just like popcorn but without any butter. I am wondering now if I shouldn't have eatan 20 pieces...

There is a subtle but distinct difference between pet treats and people food. For one, the standards used in manufacturing pet treats are not as stringent as with people food. This may not cause any serious harm outside of an upset stomach. The other difference is that a dogs digestive system is very different from ours. They can eat things like weeds and grass, that you and me would not be able to digest well.

Pet foods generally are geared towards the nutritional needs of your pet, so they may not have all the proper nutritional values for humans, as established by the FDA and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

While it's o.k. to share some human snacks with critters, it's not always a good idea as it can lead to health problems later in the pets life. One prime example is table scraps. Every now and then it won't do any real harm, but after a time, the higher protien in table scaps can damage your pets kidneys. Candy, especially chocolate, is a big NO NO and NO. In some dogs, chocolate can become toxic.

As for eating the foods you buy for your pet, while they may not harm you, they do run certain risk because of how hey are made, and the difference in sanitation needs. Be careful, you might end up sick as a dog.

It's hard to believe that he won't eat any kind of dog food. Dog's will eat chicken, hot dogs and dog treats until they puke, the start eating them again. He does need vitamins and he also needs a consistent diet high in protein and vitamins. I suspect if you start him on a good quality dry dog food mixed initially with some chicken, then gradually over the course of a few weeks reduce the meat he would transition. I think you better think pretty seriously about making the switch. Just take your time. In the meantime, make sure he's getting lots of exercise. Please eliminate the hot dogs and treats. Treats are for training for the most part and shouldn't be a part of his daily diet.

HAHA no, people eat them all the time...Dog treats that is..

Reminds me of my sister, we were getting drunk after our mom died, our dad had died 8 months earlier.. I walk out of the bathroom and she is muching on dog treats, she looks at the package and at the same time I say those are dog treats she says OMG these are dog treats..

We laughed non stop for 20 minutes peeing our pants, it was so dang funny, and boy after all the crying we had done the last 8 months we needed that laugh;-)

Nah--I used to eat the treats I got for my dog--they were these veggie things, tasted kinda like beef jerky that had been soaked in chicken broth--they were pretty tasty!

Never saw any ill effects, though I did get some odd looks from my mother...

I think you'll be ok. They are safe for dogs so they should be for you too. My dog has pup corn too. I think they taste like Styrofoam.

LOL...thanks for a great laugh. I don't think that it can harm you, unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the dog treats.
