It is most likley a bot fly larva. I have fostered kittens that had multiple ones-they are pretty nasty. They are a problem out in the country, I grew up on a farm and they were all over the cows in the summer. Bot flys lay their egss on animals and after the egg hatches the larva burrows into the skin and feeds off the animal untill it is too big and then falls off the animal. If it is really infected it may need antibiotics.

It was a bot or warble. A bot fly lays its eggs in an open wound. The larvae are not grubs. Grubs live in the ground. Since you removed it yourself you will need to watch for infection . A vet would have probably prescribed your cat oral antibiotics

If it was white, and looked kind of like a maggot. That would be a warble or something like that. A mosquito lays the egg in the skin and it hatches and becomes that. It looks gross, you need to take your cat to the vet. My cat had one, it's from the mother not really cleaning the kitten very well. It's just like a big maggot. It doesn't cost much to fix the kitten up. They put petroleum jelly over the hole and because the warble needs that hole to poke out of and breathe, it won't be able to get out with the jelly there, so it will suffocate and die, and then the vet will pull it out with tweezers, or you can pull it out very easily with tweezers or maybe it'll fall out. My kitten's warble fell out after the jelly was put on. About 3 days later. The kitten can get an infection in its back if you pull it out on your own, and you might've left a piece of it in its back. You should probably take it to the vet.
