I don't want to pay a lot of money for shipping online. Someone told me Publix sells them, but I haven't seen any there.

we live in the same area as you-we order from www.MillersCheeseHouse.com-- $5.75 a lb. $4.00 shipping and handling.--not too bad, since can't find them anywhere else in this area--A and W rootbeer places sometimes have fried ones but they are just ok.

Don't know where you can buy cheese curds in UK, but what I do when I want to have poutine is I buy a mozzarella ball from the supermarket. Instead of grating it with a cheese grater I break it into small little "curds". If it's too thin from a grater it will just melt with the hot gravy. If it's a bit bigger it melts nicely and becomes gooey and stringy. I usually use St. Hubert's poutine sauce. It's from a restaurant chain in Quebec (used to be in Ontario also). I live in Toronto, and I buy the sauce at the supermarket, either pre-made in a tin, or as a powder in a package and you just add water. Now you have me craving poutine!!! I'm going to the store.

Being a former chef and a Canadian, my suggestion if curds are hard to find, use a cheese like Cheshire or Lancashire even mild cheddar, cut into small cubes, then pour your sauce over them. I make mine with of all things tinned gravy( you can make it from a package like either Oxo or Boviril), a touch of tomato sauce and a dash of pepper (black), or if you like a touch of oregano and garlic that is fine, depending on were you go in Quebec the poutine sauce can change.

A number of "natural foods" stores sell them. I hate to say you may just have to call around. I'm in Denver and they are a little hard to find here too. Mmmm Cheese Curds!

Cheese curds? If you mean Cottage cheese, then any grocery store will sell them - including Publix. Just go to the dairy section. It's usually located near the sour cream.
