I want to buy a Bach Megatone mouthpiece to use with my school's euphonium, but i don't know whether or not the large shank mouthpieces will fit in a bass trombone/euphonium. I tried mouthpiece shopping before, but what the closest music store claimed to be large shank mouthpieces seemed too small to fit. I didn't bring my current mouthpiece to compare them with, so i am a bit muddled. I would try to bring my mouthpiece, but unfortunately the closest music store to my house is 12 miles away and I don't have a car. Can anyone answer my question (preferrably before late July)?

it should fit in the bass trombone, but I the euph it depends. Some are large shank, most are medium. By the way, I can't tell you what to buy, but I much prefer storks to bachs. I use a stork 1 1/2 for my bass and love it and a custom when I play the euph (but I primarly play tenor with a t1 for concert and a t3 lightweigh for jazz. But it's all a matter of personal preference.

alright, so there are two different sizes of shanks; one is small bore and one is large bore. If your trombone has a f-valve (trigger) it more than likely needs a large bore mouthpiece. I would take it to someone who knows (band director, music shop) and ask them if you are unsure. As for choice of mouthpiece, the Bach 5g is a very good selection, I've been playing for 9 years and that's what I've always used. It produces a very rich tone.

I don't think so...I play a tenor trombone and use a Bach trombone mouthpiece. Each mouthpiece is desigened for the characteristics of the horn and switching around various mouthpieces can cause problems . For example I also play flugelhorn and trumpet but each mouthpiece is different and designed for that horn. You could purchase online the exact match for the horn you are seeking from a website such as giardinelli.com

my brother plays the euphonium and he used a large shank trombone mouthpiece, so it should.

I'm pretty sure it would work but try asking your music teacher about it they should know.
