The man next door put our dog up for sale in a hand written ad that he posted all over walmart. He put our address and telphone number on the cards and posted them in the pet aisle. Since then (3 days ago) I have gotten a lot of calls about the ad (our dog is not for sale). It ticked me off a little that he did that so I was thinking of listing his house or car for sale but that would be stooping to his level. We cannot leave the house without this seeing and/or hearing him cuss out his family members. We bought our house 3 years ago and this is "the" house..this is where we want to stay. Ignoring the "Klopecs" next door has become difficult. My husband is thinking some really good, and LOUD fireworks on the 4th. We are not in city limits and it is allowed out here. That was rotten what he did putting our dog up for sale. The dog isn't mean, he just jumped our fence a few times and ran through the guys yard.

BTW we have apologized for our dog and try our best to keep him confined..but the response we get is a 'grunt' from this guy.

Isn't that illegal somehow? Call someone and find out, and get the law involved. don't do anything that would stoop to his level, or tick him off more.

I won't win the best answer points because irresponsible pet owners don't like to hear the truth, do they? I'm sure you'll have a lot of other irresponsible people cheering you on and encouraging you to 'get him back.' If you really are planning to live the rest of your life in this home, then simple honorable treatment for yourself and your neighbor is a MUST.

Good fences make good neighbors is a famous proverb. You need to apologize for your dog and your fence and treat the fellow's problems with your dog as YOUR problems. Fireworks and selling his house might ease your frustration just as selling your dog eased his, but neither approach is likely to ease the animosity between the two of you. A lot of people just need to be well-listened to without judgment. Good luck.

By the way, 'oddball' is NOT the proper term.
Technically, an 'oddball" or monorchid is a man with just one testicle. Here's what wikipedia had to say: Monorchism is the state of having only one testicle within the scrotum. This can be due to:

One testicle not descending into the scrotum during normal embryonic or fetal development (3–4% of 'normal' live births), also known as: undescended testis or cryptorchidism. In this case the testis is within the abdominal cavity, somewhere along the normal route of descent — most commonly, within the inguinal canal. Such a testis has an increased risk of malignancy.
One testicle may disappear during development (the so called vanishing testis) due to some intrauterine insult. This is thought most likely vascular, such as testicular torsion.
One testicle being surgically removed through Orchidectomy
It has been claimed that both Hitler and Napoleon were afflicted by such a lack of symmetry, and suggested that this may have played a role in their particular psychological makeup. See Hitler has only got one ball.

Former Australian politician Mark Latham has monorchism, as one testicle was removed to treat testicular cancer. [1]

An individual having monorchism can be referred to as monorchid.

We always get the annoying neighbors. I have an old couple next door and the guy cusses out his wife, and the wife hates our cat and criticizes everything. What I just thought of about people that are mean is that they would be so surprised if you actually did what they were trying to manipulate you to do. So maybe send him a nice sincere card apologizing that you let your dog out and it got on his lawn and that you hope you can be good neighbors. Then maybe try to compliment him or something, like "thanks for keeping your lawn so nice". heehee. It's a hallmark moment.
As for him cussing out his family, maybe you should just say "why were you mad at your wife today?" or something. That is a worse invasion of your space than a dog!! maybe he would like to explain. and he could use some accountability.
My whole family gets upset with my neighbors, but I don't because I see them as the abused children they once were and I wish I could share the love that Jesus shared with me. Jesus forgives us and we can forgive our trespassors too. :)

Wow. Sounds like you have a pretty stupid neighbor. lol. But yeah, I'd definetly try to get him back..

We used to have a oddball neighbor. They moved though.

Here we go. Our house was here before his. We're on a main road, lots of houses, not packed like a trailor park or anything....And he built his own house in the lot next to us, but he built it several feet back, so his house is level with our back yard.

That is where we kept the motor home, in our backyard, and the side of the yard where the driveway goes all the way to the garage happens to be on the same side as his house. So, the ONLY place we could park the motor home (Laws say you can't park it out front) was right in front of his kitchen window. So he calls the city on us. And he's called the city on us several times, but they were for such stupid reasons each time, that the city never charged us for anything and ended up telling him that if they heard from him one...more...time....that they were going to file a harasment claim on him. He finally STHU. lol.

Okay Like I totally can top that! I once had a neighbor in the apt. behind us that hated us from day one. We never introduced our selves they just decided to hate us...well many things were done in the almost three years we lived there But the biggest thing they did That I will never forgive them for is,Call the police on me for Child endangerment! It was only about 82 degrees outside this day and our parking spot was in the shade .OK?well My kids were in there playing(I was Sitting on the floor of the van mind you) and they were moving all over the van playing.SHE reported that the kids were left out there strapped in while the windows were up in the sun! Get this...while I was inside smoking weed! (I don't touch the stuff!) Then the Cops came and Child social services got called and i had to go to court! I was cleared of all of it...But Honestly!!! Now does your neighbor still sound that bad? :-)

Get a video camera or two to put on the oust side of your house. Catch him in the act of wrong doings. Also document everything he is doing towards you, including time and dates. Turn it over to the police, even though they won't do anything but talk to the jerk. But you would have a police report along with your evidence of harassment to file at small clams court. That's what I had to do to get rid of the crazy I had next door to me. And all my efforts were well worth having the peace in the neighborhood again.

I live in the college part of my city and our neighbour used to like to call the cops on us, cause some of my roommates liked to throw beer bottles in the street. Such an oddball that man is. J/K I dont really blame him. However in the mornings you can see him outside picking up leaves trash, and all kinds of stuff. And the homeless people across the street on the corner get into arguements all the time. One set will be on one side and the others on another side, yelling for hours, and then at night you see them all together sleeping. There is one man, named George, he likes to start dancing and singing, to an audience in his head. He'll even clap for himself pretending that he is the audience as well. I talked to him once, he fought in vietnam.

He doesn't sound oddball, just plain mean and spiteful! Oddball is our neighbor who leaves up lights that say jingle bells in her living room window, and walks her dog all over the neighborhood in her bathrobe.
Some good, loud, fireworks sounds fair, maybe some signs saying he is having a yard sale???

Both sides of me there are oddballs. To the east is this retired guy who goes for walks in the most ridiculous outfits. If its raining lightly or just sprinkling he will wear full rain-gear pants boots hat jacket you name it. In the sun he wears a pink hat with butterfly pins on it about for or five.

On the other side its like a junk yard cars kids dogs weeds you name it its in his back yard.

While my neighbours are just simply odd yours is mean and spiteful. You should look into some action against him.

Does he know that yall know he put that ad up? If not, the first thing would be to let him know that you are aware of what he did and let him know that you don't appreciate it one bit and to keep YOUR family and home out of his thoughts and actions. Tell him if he doesn't that you will involve some legal help....like a restraining order or something. In whatever case, try your best to "scare" him into moving outta there! What a jerk, I wouldn't have been able to keep my cool about something like that.

Threaten to call the police for harassment and if it continues call the police- not 911 just the regular police phone number and ask them about it or what you can do. You may want to consider a restraining order---

If he seems truly abusive call the polce one day when they are fighting loudly and ask that you remain anonymous.
