Do you know what this flag represents?

Dark blue with a white cross (like a t, not like an x) through it. I was driving through Connecticut a couple of days ago and saw some men, in colonial garb, carrying the flag. I've googled it, and looked through a few websites, but haven't found it yet.

It is a French Flag flown on merchant ships during 17th century.
