Get it as fast as possible. The longer you drag it out the more expensive and time consuming it will become. I am going to be getting mine through allatps.com in a couple weeks. The entire process will take three days including the written, the flight training, and the checkride. There are probably other such websites and programs out there, you just have to search for them on the internet.

Information added for JetDoc: This particular question didn't stipulate that he was starting from scratch, but rather, how to attain the ATP in the cheapest matter. If he isn't qualified to get the ATP, then of course, he will have to take the long, expensive, and drawn out route. If he is fully qualified, then he can use the method that I discussed.

The cheapest way for YOU to get an ATP certificate is to find someone else to pay for your training.

Added info for Kelley S...

Thanks, Kelley, but you've got to understand that a lot of the people on this Yahoo web site who are asking these questions are foreign students, or are Americans of junior high school age or younger, who have no idea what real life is all about. Your partial answer, without background information, made it sound like you were expecting to just walk in off the street, with no prior training, and get an ATP certificate in three days. That's why I try to give references and include as much accurate info as possible when I respond to a question on Answers.

I wish you'd add some of your background info to your original
answer.
