NEVER feed cooked bones!! Cooked bones splinter. only feed raw bones

Well, nature designed him to eat them raw. Dogs are carnivores, and scavengers by nature, and can digest almost anything. The bone should be in proportion to the dogs size, though. Don't give your Yorkie a cows leg, for example. There's a lot of money to be made by people telling you bones are bad for dogs, but think about it.

I don't recommend chicken bones because they tend to get stuck in between the dogs teeth and then you have to pick them out Ew.

If you only give you dog bones while it is outside, raw or cooked wont matter much, Inside, cooked is better, not too done the marrow is the best part. But then it depends on the dog. Mine wont eat any kind of raw meat.

Do what you feel is best. You raised the dog and kept it safe this long. Trust your own judgment.

Raw bones. Not cooked!

Raw or cooked doesn't matter. They ALL can splinter, and cut the heck out of their insides on the way down.
Knuckle bones are the only bones dogs can't splinter.
Steak bones are only a tad safer than chicken bones.
Wolves, in the wild do NOT eat bones. They know the marrow is full of nutrients, so they crack the bones, and lick the marrow out with their tongue. They eat the soft gristle ends of bones. That is why bones of dead animals can be found everywhere. They just have the ends gnawed off, and are splintered, but the animal that splintered them, just got the marrow out and left the rest of the bone. Domesticated dogs (we have trained that out of them over hundreds of years)don't know all the survival tricks, so they just chomp up the whole bone, then we go running to the vet.
Never give bones.
Never give pork.
Never give chocolate.
Never give raisons.
There are a few more don't gives, but those are the main ones.Raisins and chocolate can poison them, and pork can have an enzyme in it that cannot be killed by cooking or freezing, and if it is in the pork, your dog will get a disease that there is no cure for. It is always fatal.
Dogs need to chew to develope a good strong jaw, and they teethe, just like humans do. They lose their baby teeth, and get new ones, and again at anywhere around 6 to 10 months they do it again.
This is when they will get your shoes, furniture, almost anything that soothes their little aching teeth and gums.
You can get Nyla bones at pet stores. These are a very hard plastic that is good for their gums, and soothing through the teething stages, and satisfy the general need to gnaw.
You can put cheese or peanut butter inside them, and the dog will fish it out, like his ancestors fished out the bone marrow.
I am having to give the oldest of my dogs pills. She has to have them twice a day to survive, and be able to walk around at all. On the pills, she is not in pain and can move.
I put her pills in a big blob or peanut butter or velveeta cheese. The pills sink into this real well, and she gulps them down. No need to force them down her throat. I wad them up in the velveeta, or bury them in the peanut butter, on a spoon. she licks that spoon clean.
You don't say what kind of dog you have,
I foster dogs for several rescue groups, and once, I took in a black lab that was about to have her litter in the ice and snow.6 days aftyer I brought her home, she gave birth to 9 of the rowdiest little pups I ever saw, and then she proceded to chew up my new bedroon suite. I found out from several black lab breeders that they all love to chew wood.
I still like black labs, I will just never leave another one alone with my furniture.LOL :)

I don't think the fact of whether bones are cooked or not cooked matters. However, never pork or chicken bones. Pork or chicken bones splinter and can get caught in their throat. I have given my dog ham bones and he loves them. Even tho it is pork it doesn't splinter. I also give my dog steak bones on the rare occasion that I splurge on steak.

my dog is on a raw meat diet, and he isn't allowed to have cooked bones. We give him raw chicken, bones and all. he eats all kinds of raw meat. nylon bones are bad for dogs. the raw meat diet really helps dogs with allergies. our dog is huge, so he has no trouble eating the bones. he is 3, and he has never got sick from the meat.

None. I purchase bones from the pet store. I'm not willing to take a risk of a bone hurting any of my dogs.

Cooked - because the bone marrow/blood can give your doggies a bad tummy.

Bones are REALLY bad for your dogs. Not only because they could get splinters but also because they crack your dogs teeth
