Some dogs and cats have a sensitivity to cocoa, and to other foods. But not all. For example, the family I work for as a nanny has a golden retriever who likes chocolate. She eats it all the time: truffles, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate milk...she eats more chocolate than I do! And there has never been any digestive problems. But I had a beagle many years back who, if given a very small amount, even mixed into something, she'd get super sick.

It is the same way with cats. If a cat really likes chocolate, try slowly increasing the amount she's allowed, and find his/her limit (watch out! Some don't have a limit!). Once you know his/her limit, you can rest assured that you can give him/her no more than such-and-such amount. But be very careful and increase the amount very slowly!

Cats should not eat chocolate. A little bit might not kill them, but it is certainly bad for their system. It is a cardiac stimulant. Dark chocolate is more dangerous than milk chocolate. It is also hard for cats to rid the chocolate chemicals from their system.

My cat, Lizzie (who died at 18 years) LOVED chocolate! Her favorite was Hagan Daz chocolate icecream, (second was Strawberry) and she would literally walk up my chest and bite on anything chocolate I was eating. I have two males now, an Ocicat and a Maine Coon, neither of them like or want any of my chocolate. Just let them have a tiny bit at a time to see if they can handle it.

its just as bad for cats to eat it as a dog. Cats should not eat alot of things, but when they have to scavenge for food like anything, you try to stay alive.

My cat lived to be 16years old and was very healthy. His favorite treat was Hostess chocolate covered donuts. If you didn't give him any and left the box sitting he got his own.
