Make certain she dries completely..even if you have to blow dry her. Dogs with that kind of coat or a double coat get a fungus on their skin if not allowed to dry completely...that fungus could become an infection. You may be over washing her too. Some dogs get dandruff from over bathing since their skin and coat dries out. You may want to get some flax seeds to help condition her coat. It's cheaper to buy them by the pound in health food stores in their "bulk section" and grind them in a coffee bean grinder than to buy them already ground. They have to be ground because dogs can't digest the whole seed. Dogs like flax seeds too. You can put 1 teaspoon of the ground seeds on her food whenever you feed her.

Didn't the vet recommend a treatment for her?? If he didn't, find an alternative medicine vet, holistic vet anybody but that vet. There is a possibility that your dog is getting too clean. Dogs need the natural oils that are on their skin to keep a healthy skin and coat. Therefore they can be bathed to much. Try not giving her as many baths and keeping her out of the pool for a while and see what happens??? If it continues I would definitely look into getting another vet. Thu the years I have had a large number of dogs and cats dumped where I live and some of them had some sever skin conditions and the vet I used always had a solution to the problems. You could also try adding fish oil to her food, maybe she doesn't have enough of the omega 3 fatty acids in her diet or try it all, it can't hurt her. Good luck

Chlorine and pool chemicals is not good for dog's skin or coat. A big dog like that doesnot need so many baths - this could also be damaging her skin. Dogs should only be bathed say once a fortnight (2 weeks) if they need it the more often you bath them the more they get that doggy smell. You can tell if she needs a bath just by patting her - if her coat feels soft and fine then she is ok. However if her coat starts to feel thicker and a bit wirey then it is bath time. Use only good shampoo - low irritant - dermatoligy tested - dogs get dermatitis and skin problems just like we do. However dont worry if you take her for a walk and she swims in the river or creek or even stagnent water this doesnot affect them but if the latter occurs then she will need another bath - for your benefit really so she doesnot pong.

That's very odd that the vet didn't explain this to you. I would call the vet and ask what kind of dirt her skin is producing and find out what treatments are available. Maybe you can get help from Golden Retreiver experts. Maybe the problem is common for the breed. Something tells me being exposed to chlorine in a pool every day can't help. Anyway, I really hope you can fix this problem and save your dog!

A dog's skin doesn't have oil glands like ours does. Bathing it twice a week is probably too much. It's not really necessary to bathe a dog more than once a month, or twice a month with a very gentle shampoo. It's also possible that the pool chemicals are causing problems.

Maybe he is having a reaction to a chemical used in the pool. Don't let him swim for 1 or 2 weeks to see if it clears up any.

it will be ok. if ur dog does pass away. at least u could be there with it. to say goodbye. my dog was hit and i never said goodbye.u will always have an empty spot in ur heart but getting another dog heals it and just makes u a better dog owner. dont take out the death of ur dog onto other puppies that need at home. try petfinder.com it works, we bought a purebred lab but our second dog is a beagle mix we adopted and i couldnt be anymore happy with him. just if its time let the dog go. try ur hardest to help the dog. u may never no, she could still be pumping after this whole thing is over.
