I'm gonna join the Navy and i wanna work with the Aircraft. I am going to be an "Aviation Machinist Mate" and i would like to know if it will get me a good career in the civilian world. Is there another aviation field that works on aircraft that you recommend?

Great career! As already mentioned in an earlier post, the civilian world is touchy. Navy?? some of the best, and its true that you are treated better than the rest of the sea dogs because of you tech expertise. If the thought of scrubbing decks and puking at sea doesnt thrill you....
GO AIRFORCE. Same training, but you are not limited to working on Jets or Rotors. Airforce gives you the chance at working on everything from rotors, jets, fixed wing, and including the heavy lifters. This is where you can turn your experience into a civilian job easier - for example working for american airlines. they dont have fighterjets and helo's.
:o)
17 yrs service...never looked back
I'm actually airforce....although my nick is combat barbie.

Aviation is a tough field in the civilian world, there are a lot of layoffs, it is usually one of the hardest hit fields uring a recession..I received my Airframe and Powerplant Certificate from the FAA in 91, it is required to be an aircraft mechanic...I have never worked in the civilian field with it. I went into the Coast Guard in 97 and decided to become an Avionics Tech...basically working on all the computers and radios on aircraft it is a much cleaner job, and as planes become more and more automated, needed more in the civilian world...that is the field I would suggest, but it is very heavy with matha nd theory, usually harder than Mechanic classes..I would suggest that if you find you like the field, it may be best to stay in the Navy and do it, aviation is the elite field in the Navy, they are treated better than the ships crew.. I dont think its fair but it is the truth..while at sea they will be scrubbing the deck, and you will be washing a plane. fixed wing experience will give you a beter shot at a job after..I worked on helicopters, and there is a very small need
