*If you give your dog human food, try adding supplements to it as some of the food might not have sufficient supplements for your dogs. You should consult your Vet or a local health pet store ...not PetSmart...a good health pet store- they're very knowlegdeable in these issues.
*Raw bones are very good in removing tartar in their teeth. Brushing won't do as sometimes the tartar are nasty and hidden in the very back molars. With raw bone, they can gnaw at it and eventually remove the tartar on its own. But you should always supervise when giving raw bones...Try at first for short time interval like 30-40 min. until your dog is used to it. Again, ask your Vet or a health pet store if you need more info.

I have a dog in Vietnam that has always been fed on people foods since he was a puppy, and she is still healthy and smart at 15 years old now.. Almost everyone in Asia only feeds human foods to dogs since there are no dog foods in there. It's a myth that dogs can't evolve and digest human foods and that meaty human foods are less healthy for dogs than dog foods. You just need to cook it right for dogs, not to add seasonings, not too much salt, fat, sugar, or flavors, basically meat, rice, potatoes, fruits and veggies are good for dogs. Dog foods can have preservatives and other ingredients that cause cancer and hurt dogs health in the long term.

Dogs are omnivorous like us. They tend to do better with dog food that is 100% balanced nutrition. This avoids food poisoning, digestive problems like excess gas, diarrhea, among other problems associated with human food. Fruits and vegetables are a healthier choice of human food.Consistently feeding the same dog food is best. Avoid chocolate and onions because they tend to be toxic in large amounts.

Bread gives my animals terrible diarrhea.
Raw eggs, meat, bones (but not poultry bones!)corn meal, rice... these are all good sources of nutrition.
I cook huge batches of rice, and keep some on hand for in between dry dog food days. My big roaster oven is often full of drippings from whatever was cooked for supper that night.
After the supper is done and over with I heat the oven back up, toss in some leftover rice (or dry dog food!!!) and let it cook for awhile. Soaks the drippings right up and makes for a tasty dog treat... as well as sparing the waste from the oven.

Some fruits such as grapes and raisins are very harmful or toxic to dogs, but others like bananas are usually okay. As for meats, most coooked meats will be okay, but be sure to NOT give the skin, especially turkey skin and be careful with bones. Poultry bones are an especially big no-no.
I have a maltese and she absolutely loves bananas and banana bread. She gets slices of fresh banana sometimes for being good at the vet, groomers, etc. We don't give the banana bread to her all the time, but on special occassions she gets a small piece.

As far as I know fruit is not bad for them. My dog eats fruit all the time, except cherries, but that's just his personal preference. I know that you should not give a dog chocolate, however if your dog eats chocolate and doesn't get sick then chocolate should be ok, because a lot of dogs are actually allergic to chocolate and they may have a reaction, but it doesn't mean that all dogs can't ever have chocolate. My dog actually accidentally got a hold of like 5 chocolate chip cookies and I rushed him to the vet, and the vet said he was fine, he's not allergic to it. You can't feed them onions, ever, and avocados aren't good for them either, but once in a great great while shouldn't hurt them.

You should not be feeding a dog any human food, but I know almost all of give our pups a taste of something here and there.
As far as I am aware of a dog should not eat chocolate and raw onions. I havent heard the one about fruit. My pom likes to eat watermelon.

For a healthy diet for dogs, my vet said for a retriever sized dog, 1 can of green beans and 1 cup of dog food per day. Then give him one raw egg a week on top of that for his coat.
