Any secure digital camera needs to be formatted first according to the camera's file system. Most of the memory cards are already in the camera's own file system format and can be read by the computers without having to mount them.

Sometimes when the card new memory card doesn't work with the camera, this means that the card is formatted for a different device.

Basically, every camera that supports SD card can use any type of SD card but may need to format the card. NEVER FORMAT THE MEMORY CARD USING YOUR COMPUTER, this will either corrupt the card or damage the card permanently.
