The sabbath was never changed, in the old or new testament. It is still saturday. Read the bible cover to cover and i promise you that you will find no change whatsoever. Exodus 31:16,17. The old and new testaments are still both in affect. Do away with old testament and you do away with the 10 commandments. if there is no law theren is no sin. 1john 3:4. Matthew5:17

Which day is the Sabbath? Is it Saturday? On which day should a Christian worship? I believe it is Sunday. The Saturday Sabbath was given to Israel. Ezekiel 20:12,20 states: I gave them [Israel] my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD and also hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you [Israel]. This was the first covenant to Israel.

Christians have a new covenant. Jesus made a surety of a better testament (Hebrews 7:22). He [Christ] is the mediator of a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6). He [Christ] is the mediator of the new testament [or new agreement] (Hebrews 9:15).

Because of His death and this new agreement, we are no longer under ceremonial laws involving days. Moral laws are in effect in believer's hearts, but not the ceremonial laws. Proof? God says in Colossians 2:14,16 that Christ [blotted] out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.... Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy- day, or of the new moon, or [Get it!] of the sabbath days.

We are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14). God's moral law is written within and upon the hearts of believers, but ceremonial laws involving days have been nailed to the cross. We honor the Saviour of the new covenant on a new day -- the day of His resurrection, which is Sunday, the first day of the week. This we do out of love, not servitude, not through law, but through grace.

The Church's rationalization in changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday is just that... rationalization. The truth is that the Church was undergoing severe persecution by Rome in the first few centuries. By worshipping on the Sabbath they also appeared tied to the Jews, who also suffered persecution as a result of revolts in 67 and 117 A.D.

In order to avoid this persecution, the Church began meeting on Sundays instead. This served two purposes. First, it disassociated them from the Jews and the related persecution.

Second, it allowed them to be mistaken for worshippers of Mithras (a strong, pagan "mystery" cult at this time). Mithras was the "unconquered Son" in pagan tradition (notice the parallel to Christ?) His holy day was Sunday (the day of the unconquered Sun). His worshippers typically met in secrecy underground, in darkened rooms, catacombs, ect. Early Christians could meet in secrecy and their goings and comings could be easily mistaken for Mithras worshippers on their way to Mithras services.

Once the Church gained power and the persecutions ended, the tradition of meeing on Sunday was well-entrenched and the practice continued. Since the change is so obviously contradicted by the Bible, from the 10 commandments on down, the Church had to rationalize its practice.

There is absolutely no Scriptural support in either the New or Old Testament that directly justifies changing the Sabbath. None. This practice is not a celebration of the new covenant... it's a mark of earlier cowardice.

You are right.

Jewish law's definition defines a day as ending at dusk and nightfall, which is when the next day then begins. Thus, Shabbat begins before sundown Friday night and ends at after nightfall Saturday night (traditionally, after three stars can be seen in the sky). The added time between sunset and nightfall on Saturday night owes to the ambiguous status of that part of the day according to Jewish law.

You know, after everything's said and done, The Bible is the guidelines for a religion built specifically for Jews. Although GOD and his doctrine are Universal, the primairy Holy text would have been dramatically different if it were written by and for anyone else. Just look at the Qua'ran. Same GOD. Same doctrine. So similar, you can see the resemblance. So different, you'd think it wasn't related at all.

Just imagine what the Bible would look like if it were written by a dozen Japanese Wise Men.

Sounds like a Protestant with an inferiority complex. It's not the Catholics' fault that you decided to follow the teachings of a man that lived a full 1600 years after Jesus departed this earth, rather than the religion that was started by Jesus himself.

Sabbath is Saturday. The churches, not only Catholics, changed it to Sunday to differentiate between Christian and Jewish religions. No other reason behind it.

now you're getting somewhere. NO PERSON HAD THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE DAY OF THE SABBATH. It was given as Saturday, and anyone who does not observe it on Saturday is not observing the Sabbath the way it is meant to be observed.
