Pretty weird. Just to make sure, please take your kitty to the vet to see if he has urinary tract infection. Doing it in the tub is not the worst thing, you can just rinse it away, no? I mean, it could be on your rug or carpet and you'd have to live with the smell forever...

I'd suggest the same - put the litter box in the bathtub BUT first see if you can figure out why the cat isn't using it ! Maybe it's the actual litter product that your cat doesn't like ? And make sure it is clean, they sure don't like using a dirty litter box. Be patient yet consistent with whatever training method you choose ! Don't yell at the cat 'cause it won't know why you are upset. And yes be Thankful it's IN the bathtub and not on your carpet or furniture !!

maybe the litter box is dirty .
maybe it doesnt know it is a cat
had a chicken once that grew up with ducks ,and thought it was a duck
almost drowned every time they all went swimming.
Maybe the cat thinks the people way is better
had a dog that lifted its leg over the toilet.we kids got the blame for peeing on the seat
who knows the inside of a cats brain,
stick the litter box on top of the place she uses in the tub ,and see what happens,
if the problem continues get a later model

lol soryy but lol one of my cat sleeps in the tub! I was worried about her, but I see your tub problem is more serious. Try keeping the litter box as clean as possible. When there is suprises in the tub, pick them up and have the kitty see you put in the litter box. I trained my cats that way and now they use the box 99% of the time!

My cat does the same thing in the sink even though there is a litter box in the room! Just be thankful it isn't going on stuff like the couch or rug.

put the litter box in the tub for awhile.
Broke my mother's cat of the nasty habit.
Yes it's gross.. but so is cat mess in your bathtub. No clue why they would do that... unless maybe there are some sneaky men in the house who won't admit they pee in the shower. LOL
Hey.. they say it cures athletes foot if you pee on your feet in the shower!!!!

I guess it just feels llike it. Maybe it doesn't like the way the litter smells or maybe the bath has some appeal to the cat.

It's cool. Cats prefer to go to the bathroom where it's clean and cool. They like the porcelin, thats why they sleep in sinks sometimes too.

mine do this too and sometimes the kitchen sink! thank god for bleach! why do they insist on drinking out of the toilet and a running fawcette when i have just put down a big refreshing bowel of clean water, and they see me putting down? i have come to realization a can control nothing in relation to my cats and that i'm doomed to live this crazy life for the next 18 years.
i bet my cats live until 40 just to spite me. guiness book of world records here we come.

You can solve that problem next time by filling the tub with water. Then hold your cat completely underwater for 5 minutes. I guarantee it will solve your problem.
