and to make it worse, i've kissed him. i know that she will not stand for it at all. how and when should i break the news to her (she doesn't know yet, and it bugs me that she doesn't- i share everythinbg with her.), and do you think it will effect my relationship with my boyfriend and how? what about my relationship with my gran'? she and i are real close.

and please don't call me sweetie, it annoys the ear-wax out of me.

If you are old enough to be in a relationship then you are old enough make your own decisions and stick by them. Your grandmother may not like that he is a different race, but she needs to let that old school racism go. She needs to see the person and not the race. You cannot live your life trying to make your family happy. If he's good to you and you are happy, then that's all she should be concerned with.

If you are not 18, then you shouldn't have sex yet (oral, anal or vaginal). But it's alright to kiss him. You won't get cooties.

This issue could and will affect your relationships with your boyfriend and your gran. It already is sweetie.

You know what, it may sound harsh, but if he makes you happy, then it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. The only thing that matters at the end of the day is who you're happy with. Why doesn't your "Gran" like him, is it only because of his race? Well, you have to remember and respect that she grew up in a different time period, so in her day interracial dating probably wasn't tolerated. But it's 2006, and more and more people are dating outside of their race. Why do you have to tell her you kissed him? Everything is not meant to be said outloud...
As long as you and him like each other, and respect each other, then go for it.... BE happy!

Unless you want to keep those areas of your life separate, just tell her. Who knows if he is a great guy, maybe he'll win her over... if not there may not be much you can do to change her mind. Chances are she'll want you to be happy, tell her all about him (leave race out of it for a short time) tell her you want him to meet her. Be sure to tell her in advance of the meeting though.

Blow off your granny. Your 21st century liberal romance is more important than family.
