I am looking for research that gives me an idea of how big the photography business on cruises is.
How many photos are usually ordered by the average cruise participant while onboard?
How much revenue do cruiseliners generate by their photography offerings?

Photography on cruise ships is BIG business. They always take a photo
-when you board
-on each of the two formal nights
-on each formal night at your dinner table
-at each port stop as you leave the ship
-in each port if there are attractions where they can catch passengers
-at events on ship
-at the pool on ship

Ship are now making these photos very large (10 by 12) by adding ship information and then charging $20 to $25 per photo.

In addition the ships now have a person recording a video of guests doing everything from lifeboat drills to dancing in the clubs. These they then offer for sale for $60 to $75. Its intended to document the whole cruie rather than just the passenger.

From what I have seen most pasenger pass on almost all of the photos. We usually buy one or two and trash the rest. Most are not done very well as the photographers are generally rushing to get everyone.

Like the 1st user said, digital cameras pretty much save you the cost of film developing. U just have to buy DVDs to put them on. However, the formal pics (usually dinner) usually run you about $20 per sheet (1-8x10, 2-5x7s, etc). Some may be cheaper though, depending on where it was taken I believe. The pics that are taken when you get on & off the ship at each stop & the impromptu pics they take on the ship usually run about $10 for a 5x7 or something if Im not mistaken.

On our first couple cruises I bought every picture the cruise line took.

Now I hardly ever buy a single picture. I take my own.
