Fortunately, there isn't just one scientist or astronomer who makes a statement of fact. Anything put out there in the scientific world is rigorously studied, analyzed and debated. Then what emerges is not a consensus of agreement, but proof of facts.
Anyone can question or attempt to disprove a particular hypothesis, but in order to have any credibility, one must have as extensive a background in the subject area as those with whom one may or may not disagree. One way to know that scientists "aren't just making it up" is to pursue your own path of learning. You just may find something that was overlooked!

Good question. So you think then the theory of evolution might actually be a load of rubbish and God did actually create everything in the beginning after all.
Then again Darwin didn't actually believe in his theory right up to his death. No he turned to what the Bible say's. He knew that he didn't have enough prove.
But even if the scientists are saying the truth or not, God still made the world regardless.

Other astronomers. They question and attempt to disprove each other constantly. It is through that endless sifting of evidence by hundreds of different parties that we have arrived at the consensus of knowledge we have now.

Scientists have a certain way they need to prove their theories. Once a scientist has a theory, they need to run experiments to prove their theory, and their experiments need to not only be well documented, but reproduceable and defendable. Once a scientist has all their data collected, they usually submit it to a scientific journal where their peers (other scientists) review the data and look for errors.

scientists don't make theories without studying the subject intesively and through experimentation -- that's how they derive their theories from.
you'd be surprised what kind of stuff these people use -- very advanced, and not available on the market of course. zillions of money are paid for conducting these studies -- they can afford it. (the sponsors i mean)
