The Bible never says that Abel and Cain are Adam and Eve's only children. By the time Cain murdered Abel, and Cain's subsequent banishment, many children were probably born, some of whom could have left willingly or also been banished. The reason the story is highlighted is to show the difference between respecting God's directions or stubbornly insisting on your own way. The Bible never pretends to tell us everything. After all Eve means mother, hence one would expect it is reasonable to assume she had many children. And, until the genetic code began to get messed up, there was no reason to forbid marriage within a family.

Adam & Eve had other sons & daughters. Cain, their firstborn, murdered his brother Abel because of jealousy. Just as God instituted the marriage of our first parents, he would have married their children also. They were allowed to intermarry with their brothers & sisters at that time because they were still close to perfection and there would have been no damaging effects. People lived over 900 years then. About 2,500 years after Adam became a sinner, God prohibited incestuous marriage because of the damaging hereditary factors, especially as man's sinful condition progressed over time.

At Genesis 4:25 the Bible says: "And Adam proceeded to have intercourse again with his wife and so she gave birth to a son and called his name Seth, because, as she said: "God has appointed another seed in place of Abel, because Cain killed him."
Then, at Genesis 5:3-5:" And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters. So all the days of Adam that he lived amounted to nine hundred and thirty years and he died."
Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters that were not mentioned in the Bible, so His sons, and grandsons married their sisters, cousins, nieces, aunts, etc.
With ancient Israelites as well as others in Egypt, it was common practice for relatives to marry. Many persons practiced incest in the past and it was not declared wrong until the Law of Moses, mentioned at Leviticus 18:6-18 around 1513 B.C.E (or B.C.).

They didnt only have 2 sons.... it helps to read before you assume. They had MANY children it was just that Cain and Abel were the first to have anything noteworthy about them. You'll notice (if you read) that when Adam and Eve sinned (which was before Cain and Abel) God said to Eve "I will greatly INCRESE your pains in childbirth" you cannot increse something that you never have before. God did not say "I will bring you pain in childbirth" this means there were children before Cain and Abel
Needless to say yes, there was incest involved back then, but it was not a sin until later when the Earth was polpualted and it was no longer needed.

It amazes me that people don't even bother to look at the Bible before asking these questions, and then the militant agnostic (me) has to quote the Bible back to them.
Cain and Abel were only the FIRST two children Adam and Eve had. The Bible clearly states the names of the children they had after that.
Also, remember that the writers of the Bible were HIGHLY misogynistic, and so they probably didn't even bother to list daughters in the geneology lists.

Perhaps this may help you. According to Genesis 5: 3-5 reads:
"And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. 4 And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters. 5 So all the days of Adam that he lived amounted to nine hundred and thirty years and he died." (NW)

If the Bible recorded everything that happened since the beginning we would be able to carry it. This is a book of FAITH no SCIENCE. It is a brief outline of the spiritual story of the God/Man relationship. It outline proper behavior. Most of our laws today are patterned on it. The bible said that Adam live over 900 years yet his story last 2 chapters. It's silly to think that everything that ever happened is included..

Adam and Eve were on the earth for a long time. They had lots of children over a long period of time. God let the human race begin through them. A pure race then.
