But Cain went off to live with different people. It's quite clear from the OT that there were other people around. Preachers tend to skirt around it (like all the other inconsitancies in the OT and NT) but several passages in the OT strongly implies that there are other people running around.
Cain fears being killed by other men, Cain goes of the the land of Nod (Noh) and gets married.

No one was outside the garden--After being put out of Eden, Adam & Eve had children, the first being Cain, the second Abel--they had other sons & daughters too. Adam lived to be 930 years old and then returned to the dust from where he was taken from. The Bible does not say how old Eve was when she died. With the birth of her son Seth, the Genesis record concerning Eve comes to a close.

If you think you are mature or open-minded enough to handle it, you should read the Book of Enoch and you'll get some insight of how things were from the viewpoint of the author.
He was the seventh generation from Adam and he walked with God...

Look up Sumerian legend and their text on stone tablets...they date 6000 years ago, are the basis from which stemmed christianity and will explain everything far better than the bible could ever hope to(seeing as most of it was copied from said legends...)
Lol, as for those 'christians' who have never heard this...obviously they don't read their bibles very well!(or they have the 'new, improved' one!)

Unfortunately the Bible does not go into any description on this. I,too, wish it did. It would explain so much more. But, I do view it like-there was more than 1 cow,chicken,flea,horse,etc. made-so why not more that 2 people.
