Swimming, swimming swimming swimming is probably the best thing until you can get the pain down. I'm 22 and have severe osteoarthritis, and swimming really helps me. Also having a diet of meat, vegis, and a little fruit will help with the weight loss. You might also want to try mypyramidtracker.gov, that will help you keep track of your diet as well as exercise. They can give you suggestions from there about what you should do!

Try working out other than running...running will just aggrevate the condition/pain....try doing more cardio and weight training to lose weight besides dieting...also NSAIDS usually help in releaving this specific pain.and heel inserts(the good ones not the cheap ones)..you didnt mention if you had a bone spur that is aggrevating it...if so there's always the surgical option of having that spur filed off...the other surgery that involves cutting into the plantar fascia is a last resort

I had that once, it is very very painful. A chiroprator helped a great deal. I thought it would last a life time. But it has been ten years now and haven't had it again. I also had a foot support that I put in my shoe that helped. I do foot exercises now that I like to think has helped keep my foot healthy.

How's your footwear? Flat heels, a wide enough shoe, and arch supports can help remove tension. As for exercise, avoid jogging, this will aggravate. Swimming is great if you are in pain, but doesn't burn as many calories as an equivalent land routine.

First, Are you using ice to treat the inflammation? Have you seen a podiatrist about curing the problem? If you don't, you will have chronic problems the rest of your life.
I had achilles tendonitis that I let go on much too long. Now it is under control but I have to "manage" it and still use ice after workouts.
Good Luck

I found the only thing that cured mine was to wear Birkenstock or Naot shoes. They have the cork footbeds and are shaped to fit your arches and they feel wonderful. After only a couple of weeks, my problem went away and has not returned. If you don't like the shoe styles they make insoles.

I had it for awhile but the pain was only bad right after I got out of bed... once I got moving around the pain subsided. I changed my brand of shoe from expensive sports wear to cheap Wal-mart crap shoes and the pain went away, go figure.
