I've been using Purina's Pro Plan Weight control formula (also helps when you're on a budget and can't afford cat food every 2 weeks...). It has lower calories and makes them eat less...fills them up faster. My boy is starting to finally lose weight. the girl, not so much. However, pets are similar to humans...they need their exercise!!!

If you combine a weight control food with about 20 minutes of running around (chasing a toy with feathers on it - make them sprint) on a daily basis, they'll eventually start losing weight. If you've never seen a cat pant and hiss at the same time, this is you chance to see it...it's too cute!!

put her on a diet. I feed my cats just a bit of food at a time. I started it because they threw up all the time but then I noticed them looking thinner.
So I just give them a sprinke of food at a time (trial and error on that one) and then if they want more, they have to meow. This way they at least digest what they have already eaten.

Also after your cat comes in from outside, don't feed her right away. Give her a minute or two to settle down first.

If she is an indoor cat, maybe you could consider letting her out. If you are on a busy street or something, how aobut a penned in area?

That will give her some exercise.

Another thing I do too, is to give them treats when they first come in from outside. We make them jump for it. Get a flavor that cats usually enjoy like tuna or salmon, and try to teach her to jump for the treat. She will learn quickly enough it you don't give in. :-)

That is more exercise for her.

they actually make diet cat foods.. if you feed you cat can food cut back the amount, if its a dry food only then change to a food thats suited more for overweight and lazy cats (check out petsmart or another pet store) They even make low calorie cat treats (trim treats) And try getting your cat to play more, its getting close to being considered a "senior cat" so get your cat active by chasing it around the house or get it a new cat toy. If you try a combination of one or all of these things your cat will lose a few ounces- give it about 6 weeks and you'll notice the difference!

buy a good brand weight control cat food. feed her twice daily, but don't leave food down. leave plenty of fresh water down all day. buy human interactive cat toys like a feather on a stick. wave that around and let her cjase it and leap after it. some of my cats go made and i have to put the toy down as they end up panting from exertion. play with her everyday. has the vet told you you it is a weight issue? some things that look like overweight might be something else. we had a cat that looked like she had swallowed a basketball and she wasn't pregnant. it turned out she had some disease. she was fine though.

have you asked your vet for suggestions. i use Dad's indoor cat blend from wal mart.
it has helped my indoor cats. and I buy canned food also. 2 cans for 3 cats and then the dry is in self feeding dish. so they eat that, and have fresh water for them too.
but I would start with asking your vet to make sure.

Get her a low calorie cat food and feed her less often. No people food. Try to get her to increase her activity; play with her if she doesn't like to play try to get her to walk.

Take up the food bowl. When you put it down limit the portions. send the cat outside and let it run for a while. Ask your vet too.

Experiment with various toys that will get her moving around. Any movement above what she is currently doing will help! My cat is fat too...!
