I remember them from the early 1980's. They had peanuts in it but no chocolate. The wrapper was see through I think. They disappeared from the shelves years and years ago. Used to buy them from Woolworths but could probably buy in newsagents etc. They were about the same length and width as a mars bar.

It has to be Peanut Brittle Bar, it came about 4/5 inches long about 1 inch wide and about 1/2 inch deep, It had a clear wrapper with blue writing on it.

Definitely Peanut Brittle. As the name suggests it is basically salted peanuts covered in a syrup of melted sugar and water mixed to a consistency that will set solid and become brittle.
It could also be Nougat with peanuts (White or pink and chewy like plastic).

Could that be the 'Mr Tom' bar? Probably not, because I've bought those bars in recent years, but they're purely peanuts, with some kind of sugar to hold them together. If that's not the bar you remember, maybe you should try it out? It's pretty tasty...

You are not going insane! It was called Peanut Brittle in England.

N.B. My local shop still sells it! Are you jealous?
