Use lots of pineapples and big wooden bowls of fruit...and line the walls with grass weave matting that you get at the hardware store or make your own. Hang paper tiki lanterns and buy little potted palm trees and line your walkway to the party with a little candle lantern at each palm. Buy tall glasses for colourful Hawaiian drinks...they don't have to have alcohol. Buy little paper umbrellas and throw big colourful coushins everywhere. Have fun
I just thought of something else: Get the Elvis does Hawaii video or somthing with travel Hawaii on a DVD and freeze frame it on the television so that you have a realistic picture of Hawaii on your TV to add to the atmosphere.

Go TIKI!! Get some of the large torches that hold candles and line your driveway, pathway, or patio with them (they can repel bugs too, which is a plus). Wooden serving bowls and plates will add to the tiki theme...especially if you are serving typical lu'au fare. Party favors for the guests will get them in a Hawaiian mood, so go to a party supply store for grass skirts, leis, coconut bras, umbrellas for drinks, etc. Also put tropical flowers amongst the table spread. Then, play some hawaiian music - music can change the whole ambiance of a room no matter what the decor...HAVE FUN!!

Oh my gosh, you are going to have a blast doing this party. take a watermelon and cut it in half, like a pumpkin. use a spoon or a scoop and take the inside out. fill it with all kinds of fresh fruit(you can even add vodka....) do it with both sides. at Michael's craft store(or any craft store) get lots of flowers, anything bamboo and put all around. if you have a little kids plastic pool, fill it with water, plastic fish and floating candles. get lots of tiki torches(Micheal's for $1.44 right now on sale just got some myself. you can get bamboo place mats there also, or just about anywhere. get some Don Ho Cd's, and lots and lots of candles. try to use finger foods, and colorful plastic plates and cups. GO WILD!!! this is a fun party to do, go nuts on the flowers, and try to either buy your guests lei's or make them with string and fake flowers. Don't forget nuts and a few pineapples, you can decorate the table with whole pineapples, mango's and papaya's. Have fun and i am sure it will turn out to be a blast. Aloha

greet guest with lays at the door. Make girls where grass skirts or long skirts. Have everyoen wear hawian shirts. Make pina coladas and other fruity drinks perhaps wap.
I would also suggest you taking a watermelon and cutting a hole in it and dumping a bottle of vodka in it then let it sit an hour. Also set out cocanuts and pineapples all over. They are decorative but can be ate as well.

We have a hawaiin party every year. I hang outdoor lights all over, serve tropical drinks and lots of fruit. Have some lei's and tell your guests to dress hawaiin. We put tiki torches outside, you can buy straw mats and hang them or put them on the ground, get some netting and hang that around with sea shells in it and maybe sprinkle sand on some surfaces. Don't forget the hawaiian music.

Decorate, with leis, blow up palm trees, etc. Here's a good website about Hawaiian party decorations. You can hand out leis to everyone as they come in. Pineapples can replace chips, in the snack bowls!! http://www.party411.com/theme28.html

Go to your local party supply store and look in the luau section. Even target has plastic plates and napkin rings with parrots. Buy a pineapple too. maybe a coconut, remove the inside and make punch. kids and adults alike love coconut drinks with umbrella straws. www.partycity.com

Invite several HULA dancers. Have grass skirts at the door for those who forgot to bring theirs. Make it mandatory for everyone to wear the grass skirts. Put on some Hawaiian music, and pour on the fruity drinks. Get everyone drunk enough and sooner than later, the Hawaiian atmosphere will be created!
